We Can Rebuild Him...
Scandrea Started conversation Feb 3, 2005
So, I got a call from the computer repair center last night, saying that my mac was fixed, the OS installed, and ready to go home. I went down this morning to pick it up, after almost killing myself on the ice that had formed on the sidewalk overnight. To my dismay, I found that they hadn't been able to save the data.
However, as I walked back to school, laptop firmly in padded case, I began to think about the silver linings this might have- true, I had lost most of my honors project, and it would be a royal pain to type the data all back in. However, I *could* assuage my loss by getting the spiffy new Microsoft Office for Mac, instead of reinstalling the old clunky version I had to run in the Classic environment. I chose the new one.
So, after downloading my old freeware (Adium, iPodder), I made it up to the Computer Solutions store on campus. There, I found out that not only could I get a hefty discount on the new version of Office, I could get Virtual PC for Mac for an extra $20! I jumped on it, and installed it on my computer right away!
As it turns out, I need another 200 megs of RAM to run Virtual PC, but that won't take much work/money/time to get. I can install the software anytime I want!
From the new, rebuilt Bionic Mac Daddy, this is Scandrea, signing off to save her honors project!

Woohoo, I could have told you you wouldn't be able to get your stuff back, I couldn't get my story that I was writing back at the time actually having to write the thing again was the best thing to do as I had a lot of new ideas to go in so the rewritten it was better than the original
If this load of old garbage makes any sense

Nah, it wasn't a software problem, I'm sure of it! The installer couldn't even find the disk when I tried to reinstall!

Well, while I've never really been a Mac Zealot, I will admit that Macs have Escape Velocity.
Which is just a fantastic game.
A game that Windows will never have.
Ah, well. I'll cope somehow.

Because you're a glutton for punishment?
TB, you just have to get your hands on the Mac mini that has come out! It's not that expensive, and I'm sure you have an extra monitor and keyboard laying about...
