I'm not sure I understand. I had just copied and pasted that link before and it worked.

But weren't the digibox users just exploiting a bug in the system anyway, more or less?

Even if they were, they may have a right to access through legal 'custom and practice'.

I just meant that it would be silly of the BBC to keep a known bug. smiley - erm If the digibox users had access through it when they couldn't get into other things, it might be a general security risk for the system.

It wasn't a bug in the BBC system. The BBC never had anything to do with digibox users. I don't know why you insist the BBC should get rid of researchers who come here via digibox.
Sure, the BBC can't cater for digibox users, but it doesn't mean they have no right to access the BBC.

Jimcracker7[magiclink.rip gone altogether. im back.in my home from home.

can i just explain something.

from the day we digis went digital we could have acsessed the h2g2, or all bbc, but as it was a year or so later that telewest decided to try for tv internet, we didnt know there was a way in

we have had internet acsess since 2002 or before, it was loup, kow, and manda that got the ball rolling.

unfortunately the tv internet was only for the cwc cable ones, they decided to go full broadband.

if you took the time to look at the tw virginmedia list kat put on, you will see that a lot went poc, and are still on, and i beleive one lady did get a job with bbc on the h2g2, and started with the digi.

some that are aces or where aces, started as digi.

on my page is a browers from the old days, i cant get on here from the digi, but can still see all the pages as i did, and use the links as before to move around the pages and things.

in 2002 most of the researchers where on digi, and got along on threads and guides till one person, no names decided to wipe the main group, then the person left h2g2 soon after, having done the damage.

i did have a pc for a while, and it cost me in total £65 a month. before internet it was £50, so we didnt get on for nothing as some said at the beginning.

im not at the library, could get a pc, but done that, been there, got the h2g2 teashirt, smiley - sheep J.H.D.

There is some discussion of the 'mobility' concept of the Guide at:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H2g2

Where I also find this quote:
>>
Site redesign
The site is currently looking forward to a major redesign to bring it in line with the general appearance of BBC sites, while maintaining a degree of the site's old character.[43] The current skins (see above), the newest of which was created in 2002, will be retired.
<<

Which suggests they at least want rid of Alabasterds like me.
smiley - cheers

No, don't be silly.

It merely means they expect you to use the new skin, like everyone else. smiley - zen

Hmm, see the problem is, is that it would have to look good, like some skins.
And be easy to find your way around (like brunel), - i suspect it will be too complicated, like most new thigns the beeb goes for.

THough whatever happens, i bet they can't help hootoo's search engine, the master of improving one's lateral thinking, when trying to find something.

Nbb, don't be silly. If they improve the search engine, we would have nothing to complain about smiley - shrug

The shortage of people on hootoo?
The lack of daily updates of entries?
The minimum amount of care given to us by the beeb?
The overflow of one-post wonders?
The loss of the digibox viewers, often some of the most prolific posters?

Sorry i'm in a somewhat depressed mood today. Hopefully i'll be better tommorrow.
Though were it not for the search box (which is the real improbability engine), i would never have found out alot of interesting things.
