14 April, 2005: Win A Ticket for the UK Premiere of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Dr E Vibenstein (You know it is, it really is.) Posted Apr 15, 2005
True. Given the timescales involved, and that all the winners would have to be in London to attend, couldn't they just collect their tickets at the door instead of relying on the vagaries of the Royal Mail?

I don't think that this is going to be possible - we're not attending, so we won't be there to dish any out. In fact, the tickets aren't even coming anywhere near our hands! And I can't imagine that Buena Vista / Disney is going to be terribly happy with bunches of people hovering around collecting tickets when there'll be cameras, red carpets and celebrities all over the place.
The lovely company are going to send them special delivery though, which is guaranteed next-day delivery. So don't panic about not receiving them! We've put the standard BBC disclaimer in, but on this occasion, I very much doubt that non-receipt of tickets is going to be a problem. Amazingly, we have actually thought things through and come up with the best (although not ideal, we grant you!) solution for as many people as possible to be able to enter the competition...

Would the super, special, next day delivery require a signature though? So, although the home address might be useful to check ID, an alternative address (eg workplace) might be needed due to the timescale. Is it possible to give a delivery address to the organisers when you send in the competition entry?
As far as I read it, there's nothing to stop one person from entering loads of times. I can't see anything that says one person can only win one ticket. It just says "one ticket per winner" which is slightly unspecific. Is the winner defined as the person or the question? What if fords entered loads and loads of "witty and imaginative questions" several of which were deemed to be winners? Could she take EV then?
loobrush for Paully who isn't attending and can't even enter the competition.
(who probably won't enter, because of not being witty and imaginative.)

OK, it's not for the premier, but this week's Radio Times (16-22 April) is giving away PAIRS of free tickets for preview showings on the morning of Sunday the 24th April. First come first served and it doesn't say how many pairs they have for each venue but you collect them in person from the participating cinema. It doesn't say anything about an age restriction either. "The cinema management's decision is final".
Full list of the places on page 10 of the RT and you have to take the voucher to the right cinema in:
Belfast, Birmingham, Bracknell, Brighton, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool, London W2, Manchester, Newcastle, Norwich, Nottingham, Sheffield.

Most cinemas will have about 50 pairs of tickets each, however you normally have to be really quick to get them, within about 3 hours of them being available

And hello to you, Pimms Lettuce.
I read your journal entry with interest and was going to add something of my own, but got tied up in some actual work - shock, horror!
Thanks to all at h2g2 Towers for the free ticket.

Just discovered that the ONLY participating cinema in Liverpool where the free tickets can be used is in a district where
1) They play 'tick' with hatchets
and
2) Any cat with a tail is a stranger
also
3) Public transport ends after 1900 because nobody will serve the district late evening.
Looks like I'll be paying to see the film in safety elsewhere .....

Come off it, the Showcase isn't that bad, I used to cycle there all the time. However my bike is equipped with a handy Stinger missle system... maybe you're right, it is that bad

Unless your Stinger missile launcher has a motion-sensitive capability the bike will probably STILL get robbed .......

The key words in my post are *used to* I escaped Liverpool a couple of years ago, though the bike survived, only to have parts nicked by Mancunians
