8 October, 2003: DNA Server Downtime Advance Notice
Natalie Started conversation Oct 8, 2003
On Monday 13 October the DNA servers will be down for approximately 4 hours, possibly longer. The downtime is planned to start at approximately 1300hrs GMT. All DNA Communities will be unavailable during this time.
We're still in testing, so if serious bugs are found between now and Monday which would prevent us upgrading, we will postpone things for two days, until Wednesday 15th. We'll make an announcement on Monday morning if this is what is going to happen.
The downtime is to enable the implementation of a new system on DNA, which we've called Single Sign-On (SSO). Eventually the same registration system will be used across the entire BBC, which means that you will be able to use the same login and identity on Connector, the messageboards, chat and so on.
When you try to login following the upgrade you will have to do so via the new system. You should use your existing login details - it will migrate your details, asking for some extra information, and you'll then be logged in with your existing DNA identity and U-number.
If you have any questions, or would like more information about the new registration system please do not post them here but read the Single Sign-On Registration page at A1325387.

Does anyone realise what kind of an affect this downtime will have on us addicted hootooers?
I could put a face on it all, but, I do think there will be when people can't get on!
Those of you opposed to the downtime type
Those of you who want the downtime, type

i have scheduled a nap!
Better to get it all done in one go than to have delays or interruptions with posting over a few days/weeks

"I refer the honourable gentleman to the drivel I spouted earlier (on the Hub announcement page)"
I'm glad you clarified that for us, Whisky. There was a lot of drivel to search through, otherwise.
