20 January 2003: h2g2 Listed in Sunday Times Top Fifty Websites
The H2G2 Editors Started conversation Jan 20, 2003
We're delighted to announce that h2g2 has been listed by Doors, the Sunday Times Internet supplement, as one of their fifty 'diamond websites' - 'the indispensable websites that Doors has declared to be Brilliant! over the past few years.'
Here's what they had to say:
'h2g2 is a fitting tribute to the site’s co-founder, the late Douglas Adams, author of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and to his vision of a 'guide to life, the universe and everything.' There are two ways of gleaning information from the net: hunting or grazing. This trivia-trove is one for those bovine moments - you may not be looking for anything specific, but, once there, your interest is engaged. Visitor contributions on topics as diverse Meat Loaf and how all children are actors (think of the emotional leverage they gain by dramatising minor injuries) maintain the site’s surreal unpredictability.'
We're thrilled by this inclusion and would like to thank you, the wonderful h2g2 Community, for all your hard work in making the Guide what it is.

I think we must have come somewhere between 21 and 50. The latest issue of 'Doors' looks in some detail at the 20 best websites, and we aren't on the list.
On the other hand I can't access the archives of the Sunday Times site as it is a subscription service (and I'm not paying £39.99 to Murdoch!) so I can't be absolutely sure.

Nope it seems as if they're doing the list by categories. Obviously we aren't in one of the categories that they are doing today.

The article is titled 20 more diamond websites and in neither this week's article or last were the sites numbered.
This is certainly the second time I've seen hootoo in the Sunday Times. The first time I saw this site mentioned was earlier last year.
