GreyDesk, they had to come up with a name when the idea of "Skins" first came up... Before that, it was just "the site"...

Bugger explaining hootoo, try explaining going to a meet - I usually cop out and claim I'm going to a convention, or a local group meet, people understand that.

Meets are easily explained. "I'm going to meet with a bunch of people I met online."
It's explaining the where that's normally the problem.

After nearly three and a half years my flatmates are used to me talking about hootoo... y'know, these are the times when they give me this weird little smile ...

We came in under 'knowledge', which is a fantastic testament to the depth and width of research of our Community, and an additional reminder to our own 'Powers That Be' of how valuable h2g2 is to the BBC Search Engine...
...and you can believe we're shouting about it around the Beeb and generally being insufferable big-heads. Cos we deserve it. Well done everyone!

"Really? How did Goo get its name then?"
The design was always referred to as Goo - in fact, the original concept was prototyped by Sean pouring the contents of a jar of 'Dinosaur Goo' onto a sheet of paper and taking a digital photo of it. If I can track that photo down, I'll post it somewhere.

Can anyone hunt out a link to h2g2 entry in this "diamond list" I've tried looking for it at the Doors website and all I can find is the top 20 best of the best list.

The first part was published last Sunday (12/01/02), but you have to have a password to access their archives, hence no direct link from here.
By the way, that'snot a 'Top 20', it's just the last 20. The article didn't rank in order, just by catagory. I'm kind of glad we weren't listed in 'Entertainment' simply because it adds a lot of weight to our listing, and to our reputation as a sound resource.
There ya go, folks, one of those rare occasions when buzzwords just happen to speak to truth too

Jimster, if you have the password to access it, see if the URL is archived at http://www.archive.org or cached in Google, then post that URL instead...?

All this "I've been here since .... " talk makes me feel very ancient - it's sort of like "when you see policeman and politicians who are younger than you" - in h2g2 terms it's "when you can remember the italics before they were italics"
I'm not surprised at the listing - I am surprised that a Murdoch publication had the good taste to acknowledge hootoo
but .... any excuse for
BURP!!!
'scuse I
