Welcome Jimster!

So does that mean you're the h2g2 producer someone here found on the BBC jobs website?

Just wondering!

Jonny

Nope, Jimster's our new Editorial Assistant, not the Producer - check out <./>Team</.> for the list of h2g2 people and their job titles. We're in the process of employing the Producer as we speak (interviews were last week), and we hope to be able to announce the lucky candidate very soon.

If anyone's interested, these new staff have all joined in the last handful of months:

Editorial Assistant (Jimster)
Community Assistant (Linda)
Programmer (Tom)
Programmer (Igor)

plus there's the Producer to come. If anything, this demonstrates what the BBC thinks of h2g2/DNA - it's putting its money where its mouth is. Nice one! smiley - bubbly

"what's the difference between an Editorial Assistance and an Assistant Editor?"

Those job titles are meaningless, aren't they! (Blame me, I picked 'em.)

Let's see. Sam and Ashley, the Assistant Editors, are managed by Anna (the Deputy Editor), and together they make up the Guide Team. The main responsibility of the Guide Team is to manage the editorial process and to ensure the Edited Guide continues to grow and continues to improve in quality. Up until Jimster's arrival all the in-house subbing on h2g2 was done by Sam, Ashley and Anna, which took up a lot of their time and meant there wasn't any left for developing new stuff.

However Jimster has now joined and is going to be taking a lot of the subbing responsiblities off the Guide Team, so the latter can start implementing some cool new editorial schemes. Meanwhile Jimster will also be providing subbing resources to the Community Team (Peta, Abi and Linda), so he's a stand-alone 'team of one' who will provide his skills to anyone in the h2g2 team who needs help subbing (in the same way that Sri, our artist, is available to do illustrations for the whole h2g2 team).

Jimster needed a different job title to 'Assistant Editor' but one that wasn't a million miles away, so I picked 'Editorial Assistant' because it seemed to sum up his job pretty well, while also confusing the hell out of anyone reading the <./>Team</.> page. And this appealed to me, because I'm warped.

Nothing to do with tribbles, though. smiley - winkeye
