h2g2, along with all other BBC services that use SSO (Single Sign-On) will be unavailable in the early hours of 27 September, 2005 whilst essential maintenance work is undertaken. This work will hopefully help to eradicate some of the problems with SSO that have been encountered in recent weeks - fingers crossed the site won't be down for very long. Many thanks for your patience.

It wasn't anything to do with the DNA servers, so would have no effect on the Server Too Busy errors.

What it was supposed to cure was "some of the problems with SSO that have been encountered in recent weeks".
I presume this means the "Greetings Unknown Hiker" phenomenon, where one second you are logged on and the next you are not recognised.
