Lady Scott

Thanks, Tac.smiley - smiley I won't be dealing with it of course, because my brother would be the exectutor of the will, which is fine with me. I live too far away to handle all the mess associated with it anyway.

Does your mom have an attorney helping her Lady Scott? I can't imagine why it's taking so long. Of course probate laws vary from state to state so maybe this is the norm in that state? smiley - erm

Yep, Mom has a lawyer handling all this. The lawyers have done their part, the property has been assessed, and all the appropriate information has been turned over to the Gov't for them to take their cut. Wouldn't surprise me if they're going over the last 50 years or so of tax returns to make sure they have every penny to which they were entitled. Dad always insisted on doing his own taxes because he didn't want anyone knowing *his* business, and the returns were always very complex, between depreciation on farm equipment, operating expenses (such as seed, fertilizer, herbicides, pesticides, and fuel, not to mention the equipment needed to run the farm), income from the crops, income averaging (because of drought years when he earned significantly less) etc.

My guess is that when all is said and done, they'll discover that Dad overpaid his taxes for years, because even though he would spend months working on the mess, he'd pay out a horrendous amount of money every year. He *really* should have hired an accountant, but he wouldn't have any part of it.

Well, after 'forgetting' to call the nursing home ever since I posted this journal, I finally called today to be told that yes, Daddy Bob *is* still in charge of all his financial affairs, so I need to talk with him, as they can't tell me anything. Considering that that phonecalls tend to go along thses lines:

*after the rigamarole of getting the phone to him* 'Hi!'

'Hi. When are you coming up again?'

'I don't know... Can't afford to right now, and don't know when we can.'

'Oh. Well I've got to go. Bye' *click*

'But...'

The conversations used to be a little longer, but since I no longer need to be asked when I'm due... Actually, if he asked that now, I'd really get worriedsmiley - erm
