h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

The other night I dreamed that I was one of about 100 people who were offered some sort of incentive for gathering in a heavily fortified building in Boston. Once we were securely inside, we were told that a nuclear device deep inside the building was going to detonate in exactly one hour. As the clock kept ticking, we got more and worried about the certain death that was approaching.

About fifteen minutes before the blast, I managed to pry open a trap door that led to the roof. A few of us climbed onto the roof and managed to get some windows open so people could slide down to the yard and hop over the fence and get to safety. At least half of the people got out of the place before the blast.

I don't know how much this did for a lot of them, though, as they were unlikely to get far enough from the building to be safe from the shock waves. I had a magic hat, and used it to fly to Sweden

I was sort of following along until you got to the magic hat.

That's an unusual one.

I'm curious about this hat - can you describe it? Were you wearing all along, or did it appear at the right moment?

are you sure your dreaming ? I've had the "thought/dream" many times that if a nuclear bomb dropped on my head, with my luck it'd be a dud! and although it would just bounce off, I die of shock lol!

I don't remember having the hat in the early part of the dream, but that's typical of dreams. If you can find something once in a dream, the next time you look for it, it won't be there. Maybe I was wearing a knapsack, and the hat was in it. I hope the other people in the dream had magic hats too. I feel bad for them if they escaped from ground zero only to die anyway in the shock wave.

You shouldn't feel bad Paul - they weren't 'people in your dream', but rather 'dream people' - not at all the same thing.

You weren't in the dream, Pierce. The first people to escape (apart from me) were children, including some cute African American girls. I like to think that they had magical rescue plans of their own.

Children always deserve a chance to grow up, even if that means they have to endure the things that happen in my dreams.

I am usually loath to make statements about the ontological nature of the universe...

But, Paul, I think I can safely say that we are *all* glad we don't live in your dreams.

You have good reasons for feeling that way. Trust me! There are all too many of my dreams that don't hang together well enough to write down for inclusion at this site.

Isn't it annoying when the plots don't hang together? You should demand a rewrite.

Tell the writers it's in the contract about deliverables - they have to give you 3 rewrites.

Well..................Sometimes the plot (such as it is) is embarassing enough that I don't *want* to write it down.
