A Conversation for Murray Walker - Commentator Extraordinaire

UNLESS I'M VERY MUCH MISTAKEN....

Let's use this thread to recount other classic Walker-isms.

"Unless I'm very much mistaken... I am very much mistaken."
"With half the race over there's still half the race left to go."

Yes, there was the famous time when our Nige went off on the last corner just as Murray was shouting about him winning.

I recall that once Murray asked Martin Brundle what goes though a driver's mind towards the end of the race.

Brundle, in his usual deadpan manner, replied "well we all hope that you're not saying anything about us."

"And the car in the lead is absolutely unique, except for the car behind it, which is absolutely identical!"

And of course it took him about 2 years to work out that Ralf Schumacher was Michael's brother, not his son ...

I very much miss the endless routine of Murray making some assertion or observation. which would immediately be gently corrected by Brundle's 'Actually, Murray...'

I have noted increasing use of the verb "To Murray"
defined as to apparantly cause a good situation to go bad very quickly. as in "You Murrayed the weather there matey" or "I think Henmans doing OK, but I don't want to Murray him"

One of my favourite lines wasn't so much a mistake, more a case of brilliant commentary -
Back in the '90s, Toyota had the advertising slogan "The car in front is a Toyota".
In the 1993 Touring Car Championship at Silverstone, Will Hoy, driving a Toyota was hit heavily by his teamate, and his car was flipped, coming to rest on its roof. Murray whooped, and in his usual exuberant style cried "And the car upside down is a Toyota!!"
