I always thought Peta was fairly reasonable....

I can see that putting a URL in your name would be a bit dodgy, and you could consider an E-mail address as a URL - but that is really stretching it!

I thought various people had been told that E-mails in names was OK (back at the BOG). Mind Boggles!

Sorry to hear about your ongoing probs DrGL, it makes my gripe seem insignificant by comparison, but it still gets me ed up.
They've taken a url out of my personal space, which is one place I believed it was ok to have them. It was a completely innocent link to a pageful of pictures of how lettered rock is made, on a sweet company's website. Peta is refusing to answer anything "off site" and won't let me post the mails here which I am refering to, claiming to own automatic copyright because he/she wrote them. So I can't get anything done. Typical!

My legal advisor has a different opinion however. Mind you they're nerev sober enough to stand up. (smiley face just in case)

I miss posting URLs in conversations, the workarounds reduce us all to school-children pulling faces behind Sir's back.
Why oh why oh why should content here appear to be more severely moderated than the message-boards elsewhere within the BBC On-line site.
And I am getting SOOO tired of all the intrusive nannying warning messages every time I post. I may have had another birthday last week but I'm still not so decrepit that I can't work out for myself that publicising an email address may result in receiving emails. I understand the motives of the BBC, just wanting to be on the safe side, not wanting to be dragged into court jada jada jada ...

What I strongly miss is one of the most important things in life, esp. in virtual life: RESPECT. That's it. Plain and simple respect. In the pre-BBC days of the Guide the people at the helm had enough respect to let us take care of our style, of our communication, of the way we behaved. I have met several communities on the web, but none of them was in lesser need of any moderation or censorship than h2g2 was.

But now we are treated as underaged immature kids who cannot know what's appropriate and what's not. That is a very mean form of disrespect: 'I know better what's good for you that you do.'

The old Guide had very distinctive self-cleaning abilities. Hardly any threads or Entries had to be removed, but if that step was necessary, it was taken! If people entered conversations 'with filthy mouls and bad attitudes' they were quickly spotted and asked to quit that, and, tadaaa, it worked.

Just trust us a little bit more. It's all like evolution, nature and bubbly wallpapers: Try to regulate a species by feeding or hunting it, it won't work. Impair living conditions in a habitat, and the inhabitants will leave. Press onto a bubble of a wallpaper, and another one will appear somewhere else.

I predict that post #317 will get moderated! (Am I right?)

I've been Moderated - for the 1st time - and the only thing consistent about the moderation that I can see is its Inconsitency - what got moderated out was my n2g2 e-dress as [URL removed by moderator]. Whereas in another earlieer post my n2g2 e-dress has been left in..
