You can't use Guide ML in a posting, and you can probably just type "then U. Just don't use the spacebar after ".

Just a guess but it's probably something to do with the fact I have been trying to post a message for a whole hour and NOTHING has been working 
"page not implimented" "server has been reduced to a pile of green goo" "try smoke signals, it might be quicker" 
When I'm ready to rip someone's arm off and beat my computer to bits with the soggy end, my grammar tends to go out of the window. 
So how do you get umlauts then?

If your computer has a certain set of configurations, keys like ",',`,^ and some others do not appear untill the next keystroke. If the next key is a certain letter, you get letters like ú,ü,û and ù. Else, try special signs in the start menu.

Failing that, then convention in German is to follow the vowel with an "e", thus:
Doppelgaenger
Which produces the desired pronunciational effect.

that certain set of configurations is something down the lines off: control panel...regional and language settings...languages tab...details...and theen you select the International English, though I dn't remember exactly how to do that.
