Ever expanding universe

Surely not believing something you don't understand is better than believing something you don't understand?

If the universe is infinite, then im "a" center, 21+4^1+8+9=42

hey i dont really know if this is possible or what, but, if the universe is expanding and then going to colapse, what is it expanding into? maybe there is nothing outside it until it expands and then it is ripping a huge something into existance, so when it contracts there will be something outside it, is this at all possible?

Well back to the cave man with his fire.
He doesn't understand it so it it better for him to believe in it or turn his back and not believe it?
Or is it better to try to understand?

But this theory says that the universe will not contract but continue to expand.
I'm suggesting that the expansion is consciousness (dark matter = infinately tiny particles that make atoms look huge smiley - biggrin) and consciousness is infinite even if current physical space/time isn't.

Consciousness came with first thought, which created big bang in the nothing and made everything. It contines to expand as consciousness expands until the energy of first thought depletes.

First thought was what we call creator . Then first thought took on the physical to expand consciousness through experience in the physical body. Splitting into billions of us's smiley - biggrin.
We call this splitted thing from the original whole, spirit, soul, etc etc.
It enters the physical body as a vehicle for a million diverse experiences. When that physical body dies, it choses to enter another form to experience new ideas and feelings, which we choose to call 'good and bad' but first thought sees as merely good experience.
With every life we live, with every experience we have the conscious expands and grows . going back after physical death to be the 'drop of water' in the 'ocean' of expnaded first thought.

what is the meaning of life?

What is the meaning of life, I think is the wrong question to ask. Like any work of fiction, there isn't a meaning.

What are the moors symbolic of in Wuthering Heights? I was always asked those sort of questions in Higher English. Are they representative of Heathcliff's wild love for Catherine? I don't think so. What's the meaning behind them? It's where it's set. Emily Bronte lived on the moors, where else was she going to set it. People are only looking for a meaning which isn't there.

As with life. There is no meaning to life. We aren't MEANT for anything, we just are.

The question to ask is what is the point of life?

Wuthering Heights has a point but not a meaning, as does life. Life is for living and loving.

Asking what the point of life is is exactly the same as asking what the meaning of life is.

Not really. Meaning suggests we have some greater purpose or there's a reason for it. Point suggests there is just something to do. You are alive therefore you live...simple. Maybe point is wrong too. There's a word out there somewhere and when my vocabulary expands I'll find it! Hehe

How do you know that consciousness came with first thought, which created big bang in the nothing and made everything?

Big Bang may have just happened cause of things.

I can see what Europeep is getting at. It's called a regress; basically, for ANY answer to the question 'What is the meaning/purpose of... ?' we can always ask 'And what is the meaning/purpose of THAT?' There is no specifiable terminus for such a sequence, and therefore no ABSOLUTE answer. We have to make do with answers much closer to home, and considerably more provisional (intellectually, at least; our "key" goals, often inarticulate, are psychologically resistant to theorising and 'why?' questions).
If there was really no meaning or purpose we wouldn't have invented the words for them. smiley - biggrin And I just know someone is going to ask why we invented the word God, then? But then, think of the trouble we have getting to grips with any sort of referent for the words meaning and purpose, and apply the analogy to the G word. Instructive, isn't it?

Yeah that's what I was saying I think, in more intelligible terms smiley - smiley.

There's another possibility to the meaning of life. We don't know what happens after life do we? I for one don't believe that death is the end. I always believed thast life was just the beginning of something. Life could merely be preparation for what comes after.

That really doesn't make any sense - the universe having meaning because we have words to describe it. I've just invented a word which signifies a beautiful black and white chequered island with a well in the center of it which contains an infinite amount of chilli sauce. The word is "Kranschtk". Does that mean this island now exists somewhere in the universe?
