If you would like to join the Musicians Guild, please leave a post for us here.
As with many other Guilds, this one has dues. The entry fee for membership is to answer the following:
What instrument(s) do you play, or want to play?
Do you have a favorite composer, musical artist, or band?
Is there anything in particular you would like from the Musicians Guild, or anything special you want to
contribute?
If you answer those questions, you can consider yourself a member. Members will be listed on our main
page.

If music be the food of love...I'm extremely overweight!!
I should very much like to join the Guild...and in answer to your questions: I play the guitar and sing, mainly Folk Music, but did front a Rock band for a while in the 70's.
Favourite composers are Beethoven and Moondog, but I guess he'd be more of a musical artist...favourtie band: Jethro Tull!!
I'd be glad to be of assisstance in any way I can, but I have been toying with the idea of setting up a Classic Record review page, to allow others to share their favourite pieces of vinyl...oh all right, if you must!! And CD's.

I would to join the guild. I just noticed that you are referencing my entry on Danny Elfman. Thanks!
I play the trombone, and have a knowledge of piano.
My favorite composers would be Danny Elfman, and Beethoven. My favorite musical artist would be Weird Al.
My favorite band is currently Oingo Boingo.
I don't know what I want from the guild besides an occasional reference to a good music-related entry.

I think that's a good idea too. I've added a section to the Guild's main page called "Resources." I'll link to a different entry in our directory every week or two. The first link is to the very funny Musicians Jokes.
Welcome, TheOkapi and Hawley Smoot. I'll add you both to the membership page shortly.

Trillian's child Posted Sep 20, 2000
Well, as I've said elsewhere, I would like to be one of the founder-members of the Choral Society (tendency alto) with Ottox's assistance. And the idea of classic record reviews you got from me! See older postings re Choir.
But we won't fight over it! It's a good idea and we should all share it. I am particularly keen because I have got fed up with people coughing/talking/shuffling their feet and chairs and blowing their noses and clapping at the wrong times in classical conerts - and of late of them bringing their babies along.
I have decided classical concerts are therefore a very bad second to a radio broadcast or a good record. And so in a quest to expand my CD collection of classical music, I would like to find out what to buy and who these erudite people recommend.
So off we go. I shall start a conversation on the Musician's Guild page.

TheOkapi, please let me know if you do set up that Classical music review page. I'll definitely put a prominent link on our main page.
I'm surprised by your complaints, Trillian's child. I've heard people making noise during concerts plenty of times. (Who hasn't?) But I've never heard of anybody bringing a baby along. Yikes! Anyway, I'll have to look through my paltry music collection tonight ro see what I can recommend.
BTW, I actually participated in a performance art piece once where (scripted alongside a piano and woodwinds) several people had musical cues to unwrap candies, get up and leave the auditorium, complain loudly that they can't hear anything, shush nobody in particular, and so on. The real audience was very annoyed until they figured out what was going on. Towards the end, all the background noise becomes very rhythmic, actually part of the piece. Everyone started laughing. It was fun!
Oh! I've added you plus our other two new people to the roster. Welcome!

I have created a Musicians For Hire page. The idea is to encourage people at h2g2 to request us for their events. Please check out the page and let me know how you feel about it.

Thank you and I look forward participating in many a fine musical extravaganza!
BTW - CLASSIC as opposed to ClassicAL...but hey!! I'm game for giving anything a shot, and if Trillian wants to get in touch, we can maybe work in tandem ( or uni-cycles are fun!) to get the idea off the ground...or on the ground, if we decide on uni-cycles!
How does one go about getting the spiffy M.G. logo affixed to your page to provide a link for passing inquisitive types?
ATB!

Hello... I wish to join the guild- I am a bass player from Dallas studying at SMU. I make it my job to know history- It brings me great joy to be able to connect with a person (composer) through their work- I'm also very interested in modern composition and the future of music- As for favorites.... I can't really say that I have any- I love Mahler... I love Brahms- I am a big fan of French music, especially the liturgical group studying under Dupré (Messiaen stands out to me here as does Langlais [amazing literature!!! I am held awestruck by this music).
As a child in a family of baroque musicians, I learned to hold Bach as the ultimate musician (maybe this is a suitable answer to your question) I also enjoy heavy metal and progressive rock (YES!!! King Crimson, ----> Carcass, Pantera, etc. ) as part of my routine.
I'm not sure what I can offer the guide (I have a limited knowledge of computers [macuser])- I have a lot of free time.... sometimes.... (maybe that is a lie) I'm positive i can offer my view and my knowledge (supplemented, when necessary, with a library of texts). I can help wherever I'm needed with whatever... I'm pretty reliable when I need to be (bass player) As for what I want from the guide-> to waste a lot of time talking about good music ... and maybe some help with ideas on how to find new good music (I collect vinyls [spelling?])
Yeah- looking at this letter, I'm struck by the degree to which it resembles a resumé- let me assure you -- My personality is nowhere reflected in any of this garbage... I wish I could describe myself; unfortunately, I'm not looking in a mirror (I should be a text adventure writer) so - thanks for your time (all 380 words of it)

You're just the person H2G2 needs. Join everything - read everything, you'll feel at home.
Can you sing as well? Take a look at the choral society as well as the orchestra - we're just starting, and, if you're male, we need men.

It would be a pleasure and honor to join the Musicians Guild.
I've been loving music even before I was born (at least my parents told me so), and I've been playing various instruments for more than 25 years. I still play bass (electric, acoustic and brass(=tuba)).
My favorite composers are both called Paul, one Simon, the other McCartney. I consider them to have composed what will be called classical music some centuries from now.
As english is not my first language I'm afraid I won't be able to contribute too much to the editorial process within the guild. All I can offer is to share my 25-year experience in making music.
I'm constantly working on my Guide-ML skills. I hope they will be up to par soon, so maybe I can help others on that field, that's what you all have to decide.

Welcome, welcome, doppeloop and jfsjbb. You have both been added to the membership list. If you'd like to add the membership graphic to your user pages, go to http://www.h2g2.com/A434648
If wish I had time to chat more about the Bach, progressive rock, and the two Pauls, but I'm busy enough just keeping up with the other members right now! Do wander into the forums on the main Musicians Guild page. Lots of things are going on rather at once.

Hi!
I'd love to join the Guild: I play the piano at around Grade 7 (not completely sure of this as I don't do exams) and I'm constantly annoying my friends by singing non-stop. I must confess to knowing almost nothing about Guide ML, I'm more of an HTML person,. but I'm willing to learn!
