As for composers, I'm a big fan of people like Mondeverdi, Tallis, Morley, Gibbons, Pachelbel, Elgar and lots more, i do have about 1000 CD's...
I'm also partial to a little rock, as long as it's Muse or RadioHead.

I'm about to do my 5th grade singing exams and 2nd grade musicianship, if anyone knows what they are.

I'd like to meet more musicians and discuss music more often, i don't do that enough.

It's nice to see somebody else who includes Mondeverdi, Tallis, Morley, Gibbons, Pachelbel in their shutupandlisten composers list. Since you seem to be a singer before anything else, do you know the Choral Public Domain Library? it has a huge resource of vocal music (favorite haunt of mine, although I don't sing a lot. At least, that's what my family would say). I should probably mention that over the last couple of weeks the CPDL site seems to have been having major problems, but the admin, Raf. Ornes who is also having problems, is working hard to get it back online.

I'm actually legally blind, so some things on a computer are total mysteries to me.
you can't really tell apart from the screwy formatting of some of my posts and the occasional wierd spelling of some words.

I want to join just to socialise with other musos really. I make music professionally, for a graphics company, and I'm sure I could be of use to anybody who's feeling a bit lost in the studio or can't seem to get a particular sound.

Hi, I'm a pianist (working for diploma at the minute) and I can sing, though it's nothing to write home about. I like classical (Chopin, Beethoven), jazz(Gershwin, Nina Simone) and rock(Queen). Someday I will play Chopin's Etude no.4. I'd like to meet other musicians through the guild (so far the London Phil. has yet to make an offer )

I play, I don't suppose you guessed, the dulcimer. It is the Appalachian mountain style dulcimer, rather than the one you hit with soft felt hammers. I also own an autoharp with two banks of chords, but I am still a novice on that.
Like everyone else, I think, I like to think I can sing and I do enjoy it. One of my favourite artistes is Richard Thompson and through him Fairport Convention.
My first love in music is sixties rock followed very closely by Traditional Folk.

I've added you to the membership page now. I don't recall there being other dulcimer players around but they might be hiding somewhere in the woodwork. One of the things the membership list doesn't have is any indication of preferred instrument etc.

With regard to the refurbishment ( F8058341?thread=4510761 ), much of the tidying (including updating of membership and article pages) has already taken place. However, there never was a decision as to whether or not we needed a virtual bar (of the sort which serves alcohol and snacks!) once 2legs had finally turned up to join. Various other suggestions for "improvements" also fell somewhat flat. So this is now something of an extended rest period - with or without lemon-soaked paper napkins.

I know the dulcimer went out of fashion and I myself have been away from the music scene for nearly 30 years. I have recently recommenced going to a local folk club which is approaching its 40th birthday in January 2008. Groups which introduced me to the dulcimer are: Steeleye Span, Fairport Convention and solo artistes such as Richard Thompson, Joni Mitchell.
The very first time I heard this strange instrument without knowing what it was, was "The Lark in the Morning" from Steeleye Spans album "Please to see the King".

Sorry I missed your entrance to the hallowed hall, DD. My partner is an Appalachian dulcimer fan and sometime player - not nearly enough IMO. I don't remember if I bookmarked any of it, but there is some info out there about the A.D.

1. I am in a band called "Four Play" (can you guess how many of us there are in the band? ), I am the singer but I can play keyboards and flute although I don't play those in the band at the moment.

2. Favourites - Genesis, Pink Floyd, Supertramp, Arctic Monkeys, Stranglers, Beatles and Mozart (these are the artistes who occupy the largest amount of space on my ipod). I am also a big fan of Hotblack Desiato and Disaster Area but I can't afford the download charges.

"Four Play" mainly do 50s, 60s & 70s rock and roll classic covers at light hearted, non-fee paying gigs for birthdays, and the odd wedding, of friends. We also do the odd modern number such as "I Bet You Look Good On the Dance Floor", and our basist is a Police fan so we do a few of their stuff too.

I will listen to, and probably enjoy, any and every kind of music from Gregorian Chant to Garage except for country music (I once spent two weeks traveling from North Carolina to Georgia in a hire car with a radio that would pick up nothing but country music stations and the experience has left me scarred for life ).

3. I'm not really looking for anything in particular from the Guild except to know that I am part of a group of people who are pationate about music, like me .

I do hope you will have me... rock on!

Ah, the nickname, yes, well, you see, erm the nickname is sort of ironic, really. It's actually my standard response to anyone who asks me a question to which I don't know the answer, because I actually don't know anything about fish .

Apart from the fact that they go quite nicely with a few chips and a bottle of Puligny Montrachet + = .

It's rather backfired in this instance because your question "which is the most musical fish?" is actually about fish so I can't say "I don't know, ask me one about fish..."

So I'm actually going to have to give you an answer. And here you have put me further on the spot because you have excluded the Pater Gabriel clone from Marillion whose choc hearts are currently oozing all over my record collection - do you remember them?

I should think it's probaly the Babel Fish because speach is the greatest music of all. Just pooring myself a stiff drink.
