There is a significant difference between Spanish and Portugese, them being completely different languages and all.

although a portuguese person would probably be able to understand a spanish person...not sure about voce versa, don't see why not...
but about tres mi...it's definitely spanish, not sure about it beign portuguese too...

Though I speak Spanish fluently I only know enough Portuguese to get my face slapped so I fumble my way through it. Tres mil is the same in both languages though. I double checked it with 'babelfish'..
