Ah! Sweet Pan........
I can hear 'Fool On The Hill' playing in background.......
When I motor through the British countryside on one of my return visits , I tend to have something like that on the sound system.

Well, sometimes I play the 'Enigma Variations' or 'The Lark Ascending'....but my favourite is 'The Battle In The Air' by Sir William Walton (part of the mostly rejected score for the film ' The Battle of Britain - film trivia here, folks!)

*Waits for Kes to answer dsl.*
He's the expert on old war movies and music. *Prods Kes with her cane.* Hey! Wake up!!

*Wakes up*
Huh?
DRINK!
Yes, I liked the W Walton score too. The bits that survived into the film matched the mood very well. Long english drive music? I would side with mari and go for RVW & Sir EE ... if restricted to one item, it would be his "Serenade for Strings".
*Talks very nicely to the jukebox, which doesn't have the Serenade, but manages "Chanson do Matin". Contemplative eye-glaze sets in.*

*puts on festive CD of obscure Mediaeval music, such as 'L'homme armee', and relaxes*
HOWEVER, to reassure Ms Pan , I am of catholic tastes when it comes to music (everything from Rush to Chopin, from Fairport Convention to Copland!!)

On long trips through the South African countryside, I like listening to the divine sound of ....
...my Beemer Boxer twin motor at 4 500 rpm!

Hey WR,
How about the divine smell of the veldt? The rooigras? The dust which gets everywhere, etc. etc.

*Picks up a chainsaw from behind the bar where Thog dropped it ages ago and tosses it for dear Shirps. It embeds itself in the door, quivering.*
Fetch?
What did you see, then, at the Cirque?
