I am having XML error messages trying to access the latest block of posts in conversation 24X, so maybe it's time to start a new thread anyway... We have a Continuity Disagreement blossoming at http://www.h2g2.com/F26140?thread=75849 . The action which led to this starts at about post 95. I would like to see some discussion from non-participants; as I have an interest in the outcome, I have to recuse myself. Could you post to that thread on the matter, please, rather than here; it would be unfortunate if the atelier were to become engulfed by bad feeling. Well. Here we are then. The underfloor geothermal heating is kicking in these evenings as the weather grows cooler, however inexplicable this may be to Looney. We have an unending supply of treated pinecones for colours in the hearth fire, and I'm laying a fire in the library fireplace, too. Matina, will you bring tea and some of your fresh cinnamon buns into the salon, please?

They're quite wonderful, Matina.

*falls out of the linen closet, gasping*
My god! What a rough trip that was. *staggers into the library, kicking to unwrap a bath sheet from around her leg* XML errors and glacial browsers...
I did get here once and checked out Trinity's party, Mike, but then my browser started throwing DNS errors. It's amazing that I even had any calling cards this afternoon.
*arrives in front of the hearth, where Mindspring is still asleep, and falls into a sofa* Matina, oh please, some tea!

Gw7en! Thank God someone else has made it through the earthquake. I didn't even know whether my last post made it through -- the interface just seemed to grind to a halt.
But for me, it was that kind of day. Listen to this for a good story -- Matina, bring us a couple of Coronas with lime and some tostado chips and salsa please?
This afternoon II was trying to rescue some mangled source code, mangled in that some of the constituents were missing, and there were these VBS files all scattered through the directories. I am repairing and fixing stuff upon the departure of the ful-time employee, and there is no documentation, so I didn't know what the purpose of these files was. There is a VB manual in one of the desk drawers, and he had also been writing some of the apps in Access, so I didn't want to delete anything. I was moving the VBS files into a separate directory, all click and drag. I clicked one of the VBS icons and it didn't highlight. I thought I had missed and clicked again. Suddenly the desktop decided to interpret this as a double-click
and opened the file.
To cut a long story short, it turned out that the computer I had been working on was riddled with i-love-you, and it promptly attached itself to all JPGs and SCT files everywhere. Fortunately, the address book on Outlook was empty, the employee having recently departed, but the workstation was rendered a leper almost immediately. I managed to copy off the work I had been doing, but the machine itself is going to have to be scrubbed clean.
But I was really appalled that the employee would leave the machine in this condition and not tell anybody. Two Trees thinks he just didn't know what to do. Maybe he didn't even realize the extent of the damage.
*tilts head back and lets the beer go down*
That's my first personal experience of a virus.
I have a question for Sporky: What's this from? "I got an alien, I got an alien..."

Goodness! Sounds like quite a nerve wracking day, Lil! You deserve another Corona. Matina, if you would please? Thank you.
It sounds as if that fellow didn't have nearly enough computer sense to be programing. Hopefully you'll be able to save most of his work. I Love You was a nasty, nasty bug...
I'd offer to help, but I doubt that you want to send the stuff all the way to Colorado to be debugged, so instead I will simply offer a sympathic ear.

Well I will offer a sharp glare aimed at the culprit. Anyone who lets themselves be infected with iloveyou deserves a good larting. I even use outhous as an email client and I have never been tagged. That is partly due to very good mail swervers tho.

Can I offer you something to drink, Billy? Matina, please give this gentleman whatever he wants to drink.

I admit, that since I have not been here for over 5 weeks, I cannot possibly read the backlog. Sorry. And I apologise for only leaving a CC. However, i do like what you have done to the Atilier, and hope to enjoy some restfull evenings here, once again, soon.
