Lonnytunes - Winter Is Here

While we are talking about computer stuff - which I struggle to understand - I am going to buy myself a CD writer as my Xmas present from me to me.

A couple of questions. As all my current hardware is Hewlett Packard, should I go for one of theirs and why are internal CD writers much cheaper than external USB ones? Which ones are best?

Obscure, perhaps, but that is the Professor's strong suit. smiley - winkeye

Looney, the reason that the externals are more expensive is that more "pading" is needed. Internals expect that at least part of the force of being thrown across the romm will be absorbed by the computer's case. The externals have to take all that force by themselves - with the possibility of the computer following in short order.

At least, that's what I think. smiley - biggrin

Amy the Ant - High Manzanilla of the Church of the Stuffed Olive

*crawls in from w*rk IRL*

That was a very long day but things went very well. My supervisor seemed as impressed as he's ever likely to be by my ideas (it's best to keep my expectations low) and I only had to put up with him drifting off the point about 50% of the time. That's good going. And then he had a bright idea which I was able to expand and extend in a most intelligent way. I nearly fell off my chair at that point.

Then I went to teach the final lesson of my web design course at a local college. My students (some of whom had never even opened Notepad on their computers) all produced splendiferous websites. I am very pleased. Several said they were going to recommend my course to friends. I have notes available in an egroup if any trusted parties are interested.

I ought to go to sleep now. I haven't slept in an awfully long time. smiley - yawn

No, I only said that I _ought_ to go to bed. Unfortunately my brain has a mind of its own and won't let me.
