We have similar conversations too. Tonight it was compairing one of my night staff to Yellowbeard - of movie fame - and wishing we had some slowmatch so that we could get his hair to smolder...

*is pondering the idea of "cow orkers" and thinks she rather likes it*
I am feeling the attempt by my old job to try and take over my temperament. It isn't just the school itself -- and I told you about the infected computer yesterday -- but getting to and from the school. A 30-mile commute through the worst in traffic that Polk County has to offer, compounded, now, by the retired people from up north. By the time I get home I'm grinding my teeth.

I can understand. Adding a drive onto the kind of situation you told us about yesterday would *not* be a good thing!
That's one thing I'll give my job: I'm just a quick 10 minutes away in normal traffic.

Marv, we have the same conversations over here
Gwen, what's 'slowmatch'?
and Lil, I appear to have missed something (due to not reading the backlog until this new thread) what has happened after your trip (I read your journal entries yesterday) Are you working in some school or other?

Slowmatch was the cord used for guns before flint-locks became prominent. It burns excrutiatingly slowly - 1 inch takes 5 minutes - and at a relatively low temperature, so it would have made Dan's hair smoke without actually burn it.
Needless to say, Dan refused...

LOL
Thank you Gwen.
Other topics of conversation tonight have been:
a) the posibility of our former employers being bought by another company (highly probable, since they are in negotiations), and how this will affect us, having just been outsourced.
b) how Christine Aguilera looks good in one video, and then not good in another (typical bloke thing)
c) various stuff springing from a cartoon two of us read etc, etc
Quite varied really

Dan was our main focus, although there was some discussion on everyone's attempt to follow Apple by making their computers multi-coloured. soon I will have absolutely no refuge from "I have a blue and white..."
I can't say that we've talked much about Christine - or any other female stars that I know of - but that may have been a conversation I was not in on. All the night crew is male - except for me, obviously - and they all sit in the opposite corner of the call center, so they may have discussed many such things and simply chosen to leave me out of it. Ah, the benefits of being low-to-mid management. LOL

Just sent a probe over to eBay to see how my first ever item is going (the item number is 482388548 if you want to have a look). I just had half a dozen emails today from bidders all over the world -- Japan, New York, Hungary... but I don't know whether it will make reserve, which is nothing more than the appraisal value... It looks, too, like I am about to become the proud owner of a job lot of tintypes. Exactly what the Conservator at Rochester House said I need -- a set of tintypes to compare with the Billy one...
*looks around*
Babel, I am working under contract for my ex-employer. The high school graduate with which they replaced me ... well, let's be professional here and just say that there is a bit of recovery to be done. It's nice to have a laugh with TwoTrees, but all the rest is stress and two hours of driving.
Matina, would you make me some hot chocolate please?

Sorry to hear about the TwoTrees thing, Lil. I have just set myself up for a rather long-winded drive next week. Lots of people to see, and many miles to cover. I have never taken my own little car down to England before, (normally use my partners very comfy, powerfull, company car) so it should be an interesting few days.

Lest she take offense, Babel, let me correct the sense of the conversation here: TwoTrees is my ex-officemate who has recently registered here as a researcher. The name of my old employer is Ridge Tech Centre.
What is the weather doing over there? It makes the news on American radio!

Ah, light dawns, the famed 'Sitting Between...' I have been reading about . My most humble apologies to all parties concerned.
Weatherwise, Old England appears to have had the worst of it, thankfully I was on holiday while it happened. Looks like it is dry until Sun/mon, then a couple more days or rain, then another dry spell. Unfortunately, I am heading into some of the worst affected areas, and another fuel crisis is rearing it's ugly head again, so my trip is wholy dependant on getting petrol. My opinion, though, is that there will not be the same widespread problem as a couple of months ago.

Cow orker is a dilbertisim that I happen to like.
A maragarita please?

Lil, you've stumped me. Honestly.
Cow orker... still sounds like something you should be arrested for

marvthegrate LtG KEA Posted Nov 4, 2000
Well I can imagine that the phrase can confuse those that do not often read the dilbert fora on the official page, I can assure you that it is nothing that will get you arrested. But then again I spend far too much time online.

The weather here has been varied, it either rained, snowed or hailed depending on where you were in england. The constant was the gale force (and higher) winds blowing everything about. Last weekend when it all happened was of course the weekend the rail network all but shutdown for a massive saftey improvement scheme - oh what timing
I don't know what the cow orkers will think about it if I tell them their new designation in my life but I like it
Lil, had a look on ebay and the stuff looks good.

Hi all!
Matina, a caffe latte, please...
Some of the English weather seems to have drifted over to Stockholm, it's been pouring down for hours now, and so dark clouds you have to light the lamps in the middle of the day.
Re: earlier discussion on normality: I must say that since joining h2g2 I've found more 'normal' people than ever in my life before - but then 'normal' is based on what's normal for me - in RL not many people would agree I'm normal...
