Hallo newcomers, and welcome to the Atelier, a home for the more thoughtful kind of conversation, interspersed with a bit of role-playing.
Lately we've been talking about politics -- well, the Americans started it, but it's to be hoped the discussion is widening a bit, thanks to a link Bald Bloke found.
An unusual thing happened in the last thread, when several chronic lurkers suddenly burst into song as it were, and began contributing to the conversation. I look forward to the day when Matina delivers a first-to-the-forum drink to a lurker.
Phil and Amy have had job interviews and we all wait for the news with hope. Hati is receovering slowly from a bruising lifestyle change, and we're all supporting her. Munchkin, principal despot of the People's Democratic Republic of Munchkinstein, has recently acquired a waistcoat-of-arms, while sea has been crossing the border and discovering the dark side of cheaper goods. It will be a few weeks yet before Professor Tonks is fully with us again, since exams loom large in his immediate future.
And in another thread on this forum, ox and Greebo (together with Anonymouse) are trying in vain to explain Bubblish to the moderators. Ox has most recently inflamed Greebs with the canard that Moderators are a bunch of doughnut-stealing bureaucrats, and we all know that's not true, don't we.
So come on in and get a cuppa or a and join us.

Thank you Matina... *sips *
Sorry, but I'm still on my toes after fighting to become h2IQ champion - whenever a new conversations pops up at the top of my list, I just *have* to post first!

You mean the Moderator/s *don't* snatch doughnuts?
But - but - surely not even Greebo could eat all the doughnuts spread all over h2g2? She'd burst like a balloon! *worried*

BNP - the British National Party. A bunch of far right wingers. Burnley has a very high population of people of indian descent. There were riots between groups in the last few years there.
I don't want them in power but then again they shouldn't be ignored - see what happened in France when the main parties ignored those on the fringes.

"oooh not politics!" says UH
And why not? asks the man who finds himself in the company of Tony Benn and Ken Livingstone according to the survey

[Munchkin, test driving my stein I got in Pilsen]
Which begs the question why I'm drinking Staropramen out of it, as that comes from Prague, but hey ho.
As to politics, feeling really peeved that I have missed another election (this one do to the council missing me off the electoral roll, rather than my housemate last time round). I always used to vote SNP (Scottish National Party), being the major opposition up north. Since I moved to England I have worried where my vote might go, with leanings towards the Liberals (could it be due to all their Prime Ministers being from my favourite time period? ) but I'll probably end up back in Scotland before I actually get a vote now.
As to the Scottish Socialists, nice idea, but the fake tan their leader has always worries me.
Oh, and on that test I was Economic Left/Right: -3.38 Authoritarian/Libertarian: -5.54 which makes me sort of like Gandhi. Doesn't really fit with my despot image does it?

Politics always make me angry as I am a leftist in arguably the most conservative area of the nation. This give me no choice at all.

Can't discuss politics - it's far too hideously tangled a subject for me to be drawn into.......(not that I don't have opinions! )
::zips mouth shut on that subject::
Matina - could I have a
a) for being earlier to a new conversation than I have ever been before and
b) to combat the that will ensue from listening to others discussing politics !
