Red Dwarf not there?
Bob The Frog Posted Apr 15, 2000
I second Robert Heinlein and would request the inclusion of both Arthur C Clarke and Stephen Baxter under Sci-Fi, and Bill Bryson under Humo(u)r.

I was going to suggest Rob Grant and Doug Naylor - who write under the joint pseud... pseudo... pen name 'Grant Naylor' - but someone else got there first.
Hmmm... someone mentioned Tom Holt, and I recognise the name... what's he written?

In fact, I've just noticed that dave mentioned Grant Naylor as being a separate person when, in fact, he's really a gestalt entity consisting of both Rob Grant and Doug Naylor.
Good books, the Red Dwarf ones.

Metal Chicken Posted Apr 16, 2000
Tom Holt writes comic fantasy, generally siting his stories in the modern day realworld but with some kind of mythological character making an appearance. Titles include Ye Gods, Flying Dutch, Who's afraid of Beowulf and loads more. Very funny and worth a read.

Nicholson Baker
Researcher 118203 Posted Apr 17, 2000
I think that Nicholson Baker is one of the best writers around at the moment. His work is not only extremely amusing, but it really makes you think about the little things... Give him a try sometime

Just to answer someone from up above, Tom Holt's best book is Expecting Someone Taller- it makes me laugh even after the fifteen thousandth read!
I'd also like to add Matthew Arnold (poet) who wrote Dover Beach to the list

Nothing on Harlan Ellison or Shel Silverstein.
There is one entry on Bob Dylan (A301104), and one on Dylan Thomas (A208810). If I get off my considerable tuccas, I will write something on Uncle Shelby.
