"The Sixth Sense"....without a doubt.
A little slow to start, but once it got rolling it was great.....and I haven't seen that good of a twist on an ending since "Outer Limits"!

Bluebottle, you left out the absolutely amazing A Clockwork Orange.
Okay, first off... Sixth Sense was ENTIRELY predictable.
Second... American Beauty was a great, albeit stereotypical movie.
Third... my vote goes for Run Lola Run... perhaps one of the most interesting movies I've seen in a while.
Fourth... I believe Being John Malkovich deserves an honourable mention as perhaps the most confused, whimsical, and metaphysical movies to date.

Toy Story 2, but that was in 2000 here.
If not Toy Story 2 then Star Wars: The Phantom Menace
(sorry, but I liked it!)

Toy Story 2 is eligible, I'm allowing H2G2 wide release dates, so due to it's late release dat in some countries it will be eligible again next year however not if it should win.

"Run Lola Run" I think, even though it was out in Germany ages ago (and that's where I saw it - as "Lola Rennt") still, it counts if you look at the English release date.

well my fav films of last year were,
Fight Club
Blair Witch Project
James Bond - The World Is Not Enough
But no one seems to have mentioned these, so I guess I must be the only one who liked them!

yeah I know it was cheesy, and over hyped, but at least it was something original
