Here's my advertisment, for Children Of The Damned:
"You're children of the damned
Your back's against the wall
You've turned into the light
You'll burn again tonight
You're children of the damned
Like candles watch them burn
Burning in the light
You'll burn again tonight
Children of the daaaaaaaaaaaammmmneeed!"
It's a heavy metal club where the members get cool alternative nicknames and briefly discuss their experience of HM. If we have more members then hopefully we can get up to more stuff.

I also want to advertise a place to vote for your favourite guitarists:

With links to the votes for drummers and vocalists.

I'll attend to adding your Children club shortly, if you can answer me one question. You'll notice that each of the clubhouse managers in the examples has a title by their names. I threw on Mustapha's 'professor' because it seemed to fit, but bluDragon calls herself the queen in her club, and I call myself the chairman at the Foundation. So, do you have a title, or would you like to make one up for the ad, or should you be Just Plain Mike?

Hmmm...not sure what sort of title I would bestow on the manager of that club. How about Papa Ratzi?

A Demon Drawer Production perhaps.

SPINY (aka Ship's Cook) Posted Mar 24, 2000
I support this venture wholeheartedly. I've been wondering where everyone went and what they were up to when I've been wandering the deserted streets of H2G2 late at night. I've been the one you see from your cosy clubhouse windows kicking a can along the pavement with my coat collar turned up against the wind (at least when it's after hours in Damogran...) But no more!
If there's a place where people can advertise established societies and clubhouses, it can only be to everyone's benefit by revealing the rich variety of entertainment and discussion that sets H2G2 apart from other web chat places. In fact, I would campaign to have such a list on the the front page. It wouldn't just benefit newcomers, because even after being here nine months or so I still feel there's more stuff going on than I'm ever gonna find. All you would need to qualify would be to have had conversations going for an agreed period, say four weeks or something, to prevent spurious stuff being bunged there. Then as you suggest, the name of the organisation and its chairman, a short description and a link. And if a club doesn't want new people coming in and trampling all over their flower beds, they don't need to advertise.
Should I go and tell Peta, or has someone done that already?

As I said in the other thread, this page has already appeared on the main page in Peta's Picks. Unfortunately, though, the mention didn't do a very good job of explaining what was going on here, and I got absolutely no traffic as a result. So I think that right now, we should just try to spread the word in other ways, mentioning it to various clubhouse owners on their main pages, perhaps. I've just submitted a Post article on this as well, so you can look for that this week. Once we've got a good collection of entries, then I want to start a campaign to get a permanent link on the main page like the one the Post and the GuideML clinic have, because I think this will be a valuable resource for the rest of the community. I also agree that it's not just for newbies, since new clubs are always springing up (my own is probably less than a month old), and old-timers might be persuaded to try something new when some of their other forums peeter out, and they find themselves with more time on their hands. I'm just glad to see that this is finally generating some interest, and if the Post article generates the kind I think it will, this project should be taking off shortly.

Some of the more resourceful clubs will also be able to use Irving Washington's Parade page, but only if they get an artist on board. Maybe you could pool your resources?

I wouldn't know, as I have no idea what Washington is up to (thus proving the need for this sort of thing). Got a link?

bludragon, aka the Dragon Queen of Damogran Posted Mar 26, 2000
I quote Irving Washington:
"Sponsored by the Aroma Café, the H2G2 parade was suggested by some of the café's customers. Currently, I am hoping to hold the parade on H2G2's 1st birthday (and, by the way, my 19th): 28 April, 2000. This page will hold small sample pictures that link to each float's own page which will include the float, it's title, and a list of the people involved with that float."

The H2G2 Waterworks and Beach offer a wide range of many exciing possibilities, whether it is relaxing by the side of the sea or in our swimming pool, searching for monsters in our sewers, or climbing or ski-ing down either of our mountains, you will be sure of an exciting time.
If it is relaxation you want, then you can have either a doughnut on the beach or a drink from the beach hut, and just enjoy talking to the many researchers who visit.

Well, I don't know if it qualifies as a club, but you can find the Aroma Café at http://www.h2g2.com/A202924
And this isn't exactly a club either, but the H2G2 Parade (which I may end up holding regularly, if all goes well) can be found at http://www.h2g2.com/A274835
This club isn't quite mine, but I'm in it, so here it goes, http://www.h2g2.com/A180802

Irving: bluDragon has already taken the trouble to write up a brief ad for the parade, but for the rest of them, I'll need one.
H2G2 Space Centre
Alien Posted Mar 27, 2000
OK, let's see if I can create something...
"H2G2 Space Centre is the centre of all extraterrestrial traffic taking place in the realm of h2g2 and the meeting place for inter-galactic travellers (and hitch-hikers) from all around the Galaxy - and beyond. Among all features there are possibilities for hangar and spaceship renting and of course a marvellous bar, the Cheshire Grin. Without forgetting that there's enough space for anyone to start a new business. See you there!!"
If you can make it any better, feel free to do so... And please correct the spelling and grammar if there are any stupid mistakes...

Don't know if this counts as a club, but:
"The H2G2 Saving The Galaxy Effort is an ongoing work of collaborative fiction/banter, based on board the Starship Esirpretne. the mission is ostensibly to save the galaxy from the doughnut-hating Horrible Somethings, but anyone who has an ear for comedy and a fondness for Science Fiction is sure of a warm welcome from either Captain Al Boy or First Officer Eomando."
