Hear Ye! Hear Ye!
A meet for h2g2 researchers and their families, hosted by your President, will be held on Tuesday,July 4, 2006 in Webb City, Missouri. Come savor the flavor of the Ozarks. Swimming, lawn games, good food, live music and fireworks. YeeHaw! (Overalls and straw hats optional)
You have plenty of time to make travel plans. So put it on your calendars.

The Minister for Cushions begs to be afforded several months before making his decision, for two main reasons:
1. Being on another continent, with the attendant expense and bother.
2. Rarely knowing where he was the previous week, never mind next year.

Understood, Baggers. But, for those of you in the UK and elsewhere, I want to remind you that the pound is very strong in comparison the the dollar and it will be a cheap trip for you.
After coming so far, you'll want to stay a few days, of course, so I am organizing sightseeing trips and other fun stuff.
And before anyone asks why Missouri.....well, first because that's where I am. And second because everyone and their hound dog goes to New York and Florida and California and those other high class, touristy places. Think of how interesting and eccentric you'll sound to all your friends when you tell them that you're going to a picnic in the Ozarks. With REAL Hillbillies in attendance.

No chance I'm afraid apart from also being on the same continent as Bagpuss, there's three of us and I can't afford it

Hypatia Posted Oct 26, 2005
We'll take lots of pictures. And drink a toast to absent friends. And who knows, Reefgirl. You may win the lottery between now and then.

Reefgirl (Brunel Baby) Posted Oct 26, 2005
It'd help if I actually played the lottery

Bagpuss Posted Oct 26, 2005
To be honest it probably wouldn't help that much.
Hyp - I don't think the cost is going to be such a prohibiting factor for me, but can I point out that the main expense would be in getting to you, not in what I'd spend while I'm there? Therefore, the weakness of the dollar wouldn't help that much.

That's true, Bagpuss. It's a long trip. And I completely understand that most of my UK friends won't be able to come. But that isn't going to stop me from asking.

Fair enough, Hyp. 'Sides you didn't direct the question at me - I happened to read it.
I might well be able to make it, but I'm not sure. See, I should be attending a wedding in Ontario next summer and if I can make it an extended holiday including the Hillbilly meet I'll gladly do so.

Well, I always count not getting shot down as a plus point.

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am... Posted Oct 26, 2005
The Dreadfuls will be making every effort to come to the meet, but if we find a house to buy that will have to come first.
Hillbilly Meet
Hypatia Posted Oct 26, 2005
Definitely. Buying a house is more important than a meet.

Where do you look for flights from the UK to Joplin Airport? (Yes, I know I might not be coming and if I am I might be going to Toronto first, but there's no harm in looking)
Hillbilly Meet
Hypatia Posted Oct 26, 2005
The code for the Joplin airport is JLN. Go to Expedia.com. That's a good starting point. And price flights to Tulsa, Oklahoma as well. It's a 2 hour drive from here to there, but it's often easier to fly into there than into Joplin. And I can pick you up.

What about Springfield? Flights to there seem to be slightly cheaper and it's nearer to you.
