h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

*Whilst running down the mountain, E wonders how it's possible to miss so much when you heven't been here for just one night...*

Try being away for a week, very confusing.
Or being away for 20 weeks, when you return you have to make all new friends.

The longest I've been away is two days and that was confusing enough.

I was recently away for almost five days. I still haven't been to the doughnut stall yet. Maybe it's about time . . .

That's because of the story of the Grasshopper and the Octopus.

Ok, I'll bite: The grasshopper and the octopus??????

I am away on Saturdays and Wednesdays and I find it hard to catch up too. Thursday and Sunday mornings are not my most productive times at work.

The Grasshopper and the Octopus is a reference to Futurama, the episode where Fry drinks the Emperor.

Ah. Yes. Well. I see. That's much clearer then.


What is Futurama and who is Fry and how can you _drink_ an emperor?

*DD starts laughing as everybody going faster and faster reminds him of the Python sketch about the walk to work in the city*

"Futurama" is a cartoon show by Matt Groenig, same person who did "The Simpsons", and Fry is the main character, who went into suspended animation in 1999 and wakes up in the year 3000. It's brilliant - makes "The Simpsons" look as dull as "Scooby Doo".

Anyway, Fry gets a job as a delivery person for his great-great-great-great-great-great-great . . . (check in a few hours later) . . .-great-great-great grand nephew. In one episode, he went to a planet with two extremely hot small suns, and a gigantic one that only came up right as the other two finally started to set. Anyway, he gets really thirsty, gets to the delivery point, leaves the package, notices a soda bottle (or something), and drinks the liquid inside. Then he learns from the royal guards who . . . slide? Slither? Drip? . . . in, that the people on this planet are all made of liquid.

Fry becomes emporer, and nearly gets killed due to some rather unfortunate circumstances.

So essentlially, when you can, watch it - it's great.
