Why is it that I have to come in through the "Preferences" link, every time I log in?

Then after I have clicked on "Preferences" I get taken to a new style page, then click on Save, before I get into my old style home page?

So, you click login, and then automatically end up in the Preferences window? I would expect to come to the Personal Space...
That is indeed odd. I'm not quite sure what other windows you see. It would be great to see some screenshots, and urls, if possible
Would you be sweet and mail to [email protected]?

Or maybe I misunderstand - you come to your PS in pliny, but would prefer to be in Alabaster (other skins are available, they say...)

I think a series of screenshots would help me a lot!

I've logged it so far, but look forward to the screenshots.

This is what I do:

1. Click on h2g2 in my favourites list. This takes me to my home page in Alabaster.

2. Lurk, lurk and lurk some more.

3. When I feel I need to make a comment, I click on the blank space where once 'Log In' was showing (above 'My Most Recent Conversations'). This takes me to the page you've just linked to.

4. Once I've logged in, I am taken to my home page in Pliny.

5. I then return to my favourites list, click on h2g2 again, and whoopie I'm back in Alabaster and logged in.

Right, smudger, here's what I think you should do...

Clear all cookies and cache of your browser. Then login via http://h2g2.com/login/portal
This should be the link that the login button on fp (http://h2g2.com) leads to.
(Yes that's pliny, but bear with me...)

The vogon login might be the wrong place. That's what we used before Pliny was live, I believe...

Actually, when I clicked your link (to the Vogon login), I couldn't even reply to the posts, but ended up at the Vogon login page again! But I cleared cache and cookies and was able to come back.

Begin there, and I will return with more info on how to make your skin preference stick.

I have also set my preferences to a Ripley skin, but returning from the Preferences form took me back to Pliny.
I will double check to see that this is logged in the bug list.

Once you are logged in, I suggest you simply click a bookmarked link to your UserSpace in your preferred skin.

After that, you should not be taken back to Pliny unless you actively click a Pliny link.

I realise that people don't always paste "skinless" links in their conversation posts, so you may have to copy and paste parts of the url to the end of your skin/URL.

I've done this. Basically, I still have my home page set to http://h2g2.com/ which is the pliny home page. (I've got my preference set to brunel, but pliny I see.) I go ahead and check some of the features there (see the latest updated convos, what's new in PR, notice Z still has the qotd). Then I click on the separate bookmark I have for the brunel front page http://www.h2g2.com/dna/h2g2/brunel/FrontPage (where I check the actual qotd). I then pull up my convos and I navigate from there and don't see pliny again until the next day.

Works well for me.

On some of my other computers/tablets start off in pliny, then I go to my space where I've set a link to the brunel version of My Convos and open that as a tab and I can navigate my conversations from there in brunel.

If you paste in the URL from your conversation popup in brunel into the line below, replacing the XXXXXs, that's the line you can edit into your PS to have a link to it even in pliny.

Sorry, that line got hidden in pliny by another bug that's affecting unrecognized smiley codes. Take the line below and remove the spaces after the first < and before the last >.

Hi Folks, after reading all your helpful posts, I ended up feeling dizzy, and a bit light headed, and needed my meds straight away

Just kidding, Ive sorted it all out now, by simply making a new Bookmark that takes to the Update link, then that lets me straight in

I think Ripley is having serious issues right now... of course it's a weekend. The disk is full.

It was, it started logging every page request, and fell over...
It's just rebooted again, let's hope it calms down now.

Could someone PLEASE post up a link that will work, and get me in here, as I'm having problems every time I try to get in?

I'm almost at a point!

Well I'm a guru...

What I've done in my other browser.

1. Gone to h2g2.com (new skin).

2. Logged in and changed my preferences to goo (my favourite skin).. I also clicked in 'remember me'

3. Gone to my space.

4. Book marked it.

Then when I open that browser, and go to the bookmark it takes me to my space in goo. Does this work for you?

NO! and Ive tried everything,

I need my Meds now.......will try again later, as I cant remember how I got this far
