h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

As mentioned in another thread, we promised to see what we can share regarding the visitor numbers to h2g2.com. Here's a quick summary of the data for the last month:

93000 unique visitors, of which 18% return visits. 407000 page views i.e. people read 3 to 4 pages on average per visit. 66% of the traffic comes from people who searched the internet for information and found our entries useful.

Yes an update from time to time might allow us to see what the overall pattern is.

A six-figure number is probably not great, compared with the big names and their millions of hits, but it's not to be sneered at, either.

I remember that a few years ago, the statistics showed huge hits on one particular entry, a collaborative entry which I had been heavily involved with. But then it turned out that most people left the site within 15 seconds of finding this entry.

It was obvious they searched, found it, looked at it, then realised it wasn't what they were looking for. That entry was:

It's easier to turn off the TV than to turn off the significant other who keeps nagging you.

There was a cartoon about a og who was nagged about watching too much TV. So he clicked the remote and turned off the person who was nagging.
