paulh, making lemonade from the lemons that life has given me Posted Feb 5, 2018
And there are people who ride bikes in all weather. I'm not thinking of them, as they need their bikes for transportation usually. Biking as a sport probably has the same season of interest as marathoning. There are marathons in Spring, Summer, and Fall, but winter?

Sorry, operations. My apologies. I could look up stats for biking/marathoning, but it's better to drop the subject.

Greetings Stats Fans!
Google Analytics is looking good and green again. The number of unique users is up 24% to 95,000 and the number of Page Views is up 17% to 414,000 compared to the previous month.
The Elon Musk effect is strong - more people searched h2g2 for Don't Panic and Towel than in the previous month!
Apart from the usual suspect Entries (Weevils etc) How to Write a 12 Bar Blues was popular, as were Gallileo Gallilei, Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell, Queen Victoria, and How to Understand Statistics, pleasingly!

Yes, that's encouraging.
It can't be long now before they put 'The Fray Bentos Steak and Kidney Pie' on the school syllabus.

The "I tried to write a drinking song, but I couldn't get beyond the first bar" blues song.
You may use this post for whatever statistical purposes you want.

Is there a case for a thread in which people could try out ideas for Edited Guide entries?
Producing an Edited Guide entry can be a lot of work, and it's disappointing if nobody reads it. If you listed an idea like, say, 'How to write a sestina' and got a howling silence, you'd know it was time to come up with a better idea!

I admit I didn't know about Challenge h2g2- and nothing much seems to have happened there since 2013

Well, you know, not all of our Entries get thousands of hits a month, but I'm pretty sure a lot of them get a non negligible number of hits.
Maybe Sasha can find us the relevant figures ?

If you write an Entry people will read it...
New Edited Guide Entries are promoted via social media as well as on the h2g2 Front Page, so hundreds of people find them.
Also, as you can see from the stats, you just don't know what people will be interested in - every month thousands of different Entries are read, not just the 'trending' ones that get mentioned in this thread.
if you're interested in a topic, you write about it and your readers will learn something new!

Google Analytics is looking good and green again. The number of unique users in February was 91,000 compared to 82,000 in the previous 28 days. The number of Page Views is up to 400,000 compared to 369,000 in the previous period.
Apart from the usual suspect Entries, Writing a 12 Bar Blues is still popular, The NATO phonetic alphabet Entry has seen a 50% increase (more than 700 views) and Galileo Galilei is 70% more popular than last month. The Synoptic Gospels Entry is 140% more popular than last month. Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell was viewed 120 times on 11 February.
These topics could be combined, but we're not sure what a blues song inspired by Purcell with phonetic alphabet terms plus Galileo and the Gospels would sound like...

Henry Purcell's "Christ is made the sure foundation"

could be syncopated in a bluesy gospel version.

In the NATO phonetic alphabet, the lyrics would be spelled
Charley Hotel Romeo Sierra Tango
India Sierra
Mike Alfa Delta eecho
Tango Hotel Echo
sierra Uniform Romeo Echo
Foxtrot Oscar Uniform November Delta Alfa Tango India November
in terms of telephony.
I can also offer these in Morse code and phonetic versions if anyone wants them.
