JWF, I think all the energy spent on this pointless entitled rage you have would be better channeled into something constructive, don't you? Why not go do some things for h2g2, and earn some badges on the way?

Or find something better to rage at, like a local civic and/or political issue, then help get it rectified.

Or take it out on the weeds in your garden.

Or maybe go build a bird feeder. It'll be cold soon.

How about rather than giving out to jwf for being upset that his badge has been taken away, just add the word "Former" to the Underguide badge in Ripley and give it back to him?

I agree with the former. I would also agree with the latter bit if it's not too hard. jwl is upset, clearly, and no doubt with what he at least sees as good reason. If his problem can't be resolved, let's at leasr accept that it is legitimate. Albeit, jwl, if you were moderated you have to accept that too.

I don't know if it's possible to alter the Ripley badges.

But if jwf said he would like a blob to go on his personal space, not an official badge. Could some kind soul who is nifty at GML be able to wizz up something using the existing UG blobs? Something similar to the badge icy north made for those of us that did najopomo11 which you can see on my personal space?

Upset? Moi? Never!

I've been here too long and I am too old
to get upset by ineptitude. Or the refusal
to admit to ineptitude. My current concern
is the failure of anyone to admit that taking
away a hard earned badge without notice
was unfair. And now, as usual, insult is being
added to the injury.

Instead of anyone admitting that an arbitrary
action like taking away what was rightfully earned
is an error in judgment I get patronised and modded
for merely asking if there is some way to ameliorate
my loss.

And now I'm the bad guy for mentioning the Emperor's
nakedness. Been here before. Done this before.
I wish Taff was here to do some cussing.

Oh yeah, 2001, I got upset and created AGG,
the Alternate Guide to the Galaxy which
was designed to allow creative writing
not constrained by the imposition of the
Official Guide Entry Guidelines.

Which grew into AGG/GAG/CAC and eventually
(2004) morphed into the Underguide - an ongoing
vehicle for writers who wanted to write outside
the lions. The Underguide even got
Front Page recognition. But that's all History
and no one cares about History. They never do
and never did. I know that. And I don't care.

Am I still active? Of course. As Dmitri kindly
pointed out I am an active Post contributor.

Glad someone could sort jwf out, rather than shooting down all suggestions.

Auntie Mal, I wasn't asking you to add a new badge to Ripley, I was asking you to modify an existing badge which is not used. I know you can do that.

This thread has now done its job. This is the closing post.

As has been said, we are not updating or creating any new badges in Ripley.
We are removing Ripley badges for inactive volunteer schemes, and people who no longer contribute to active schemes. All these are given Pliny Former volunteer badges.

Active volunteers in active schemes still get to keep their Ripley badges and also receive Pliny badges for active volunteering.

This is intended to clearly show who is an active volunteer, and who has made contributions in the past.

We expect that the system rebuild will show the Pliny Badges in all skins, but until then, new badges are visible only in Pliny.

All in all we have been manually applying about 4000 badges, manually. And we're still not done - work is still in progress for those who have 1-9 approved solo entries.

Be proud of what you have contributed. Keep contributing, we need it. Thanks for all the good writing and illustrations, and volunteering of all sorts.
