Okay, right, first, it's "Script for a Jesters Tear"
This article could possibly be less biased against Steve Hogarth, the man with the most beautiful voice and stage presence I have ever seen. Fish is a great front man in his own right and if given the chance could be a great stand up comic. Fish made some wonderful albums with the band but both he and marillion have moved on. Steve Hogarth has now been in the band longer than Fish ever was.
Now there's the older Fish biased fans which this article was seemly written by who can't seem to except the fact he left in 1988, 11 years ago, but there you go.
Strange but true, Radiohead were listening to Marillion's ground breaking album "Brave" while making OK Computer, and no I can't back up this information.
How about briefly mentioning http://www.marillion.com and Fish's site http://www.the-company.com
Marillion are about to release there tenth studio album titled "marillion.com"
All Marillion's fans are mad, but very nice with it, I should know I am one. (By the way I apologise for ranting but I had the worst day ever yesterday)

I really like Steve Hogarth's stuff with the band. I actually seldom listen to any Fish-era albums now bar "Clutching At Straws". IMHO, "Afraid of Sunlight" is their best album, indeed one of the best albums of all-time. Stands up against "OK Computer" I can tell you.
Sadly the Marillos suffer from the eternal problem of never being able to shackle off the "80's band" image. And showy music just doesn't sell anymore. If marketed properly. Afraid of Sunlight could have been a massive album, but EMI had lost interest in the band, bastards that they are.
It's an eternal contradiction; if they knocked the 10-minute epics on the head and concentrated on making concise songs (which they do very well; cf. 'Beautiful', 'Sugar Mice', 'Cover My Eyes'), they might win over some new fans; but tif they don't churn out the epics, they'll alienate all the existing proggers.
What's a band to do? IMHO they ought to have just changed their name when Fish left..
Names
Ant Posted Sep 24, 1999
Yeah but if they had done that, I don't think I'd have ever discovered them, and Fish would've used the name. The first time I saw them live was on the Seasons End tour, which was also the first album I heard by them A name change wouldn't have worked either.

Thanks for this Ant. I will definitely revise the article. Can you and anyone else that wants to add to this write a user page with the revisions on and then post the page number to me. To add to it I need to know what newer stuff was good, or better, how did the two styles compare, was it just a change of voice or style. Give me a bit more to go on. Please? Thanks .....

I concurr...
I have also written some stuff on Marillion with the intention of redressing the balance. Petra has suggested that we work together on this to update the existing entry.
Wat do you think??

Marillion is great, but give Yes their due.
That out of my system, I suggest anyone who hasn't to check out the on-line Encyclopedea of Progressive Rock. Much information, much is biased, but entries are usually well done.
Prog on!

I agree, let's get this balanced out here. Sure Fish was great in his time, but no fair shitting on Steve Hogarth, who is completely different, yes, but a superb artist in his own right, and who added more of an everlasting stamina to Marillion than Fish ever could have. This band is still around because, oh my gosh, THEY'RE STILL EXCELLENT!!!! They continue to evolve and really get better with each new album. Lots of influence from the Beatles as of late, and cross-influence between Marillion and Radiohead. Take a listen to the marillion.com album, and hell, all of H's contributions for that matter. Brave, Afraid of Sunlight, This Strange Engine.... it just continues!!!!
