Yesterday was rather good: I hooked up with a couple of peeps from the Glasto forums, went to the Star Wars exhibition and had a couple of beers. All good.

Then we went to the BBC to see the recording of a sitcom.

Ye gods, it was dreadful. In fact, it was pretty much 'My Family' but with added mother in law jokes. And to make matters worse, it was the Crispiemass Special!smiley - wah

God damn that sounds awful.... what was the program called so I can make a mental note not to watch it?

I don't know! Nicholas Lyndhurst & Celia Imrie were both debasing themselves in it.

Still, the Dalek in the Audience Bar was a nice bonus. It almost made up for the two hours of hell.

'Crispiemass TV'

It is on from 18:00 on Crispiemass Eve, and continues until 18:00 on Thursday 27th December...

To use the modern parlance 'Same Old! Same Old!'

That's the usual TV dross! smiley - groan One year they'll surprise us.

Oh! And Roymondo! You should have guessed...

I thought all 'invite a free audience!' programmes were like that?

Although I would like to go on 'Ready Steady Cook.'

Just no-one else does. smiley - sadface

But then I am a smiley - blue s*d!

But 'The Late Edition' is a free invite, and that's rather splendid. Mind you, most things Marcus Brigstocke does are rather splendid, apart from the ghastly Trevor MacDonald thing he did on ITV a few months back: that was dreadful.

I've seen a bit of that programme and it's dire, it really is smiley - sadface

I once went to a recording of Never Mind the Buzzcocks at Television Centre. That was kinda fun, but the prices in the BBC shop - ye gods! smiley - yikes

A Super Furry Animal

I've been to a few "free audience" things both for the Beeb and other channels. It really does depend on the programme but all the ones I've been to were very funny. It's also a revelation when you see the finished programme on the tell-o-vision, as they have to (naturally) edit down 2 hours of material into a half-hour programme.

I think in this case they'd be better off editing it down to the opening titles.

My (albeit half hearted) attempt to find people u for a bit of The Late Edition failed.smiley - wah

A bit research tells me that you went to see 'After You've Gone', which is made by the makers of My Family:

Sounds like a big pile of poo to me. Well done for not enjoying it!

Dr E Vibenstein (You know it is, it really is.)

"The theme song is performed by Jamie Cullum."

Says it all, really, doesn't it?

Yep, that was the particular circle of hell in which I was entombed. The Dalek rocked though:

That's not my photo: it's from the Glasto forums.

smiley - cool Dalek! I see they still use sink plungers as the ultimate weapon of mess destruction.

I've never seen it, but i would imagine you might quite enjoy "Ready Steady Cock"

I was very, very tempted to pose in a provocative 'Me sucking a Dalek's plunger' kind of way, but thought better of it. Not enough beer! (and I wasn't going to be buying a BBC beer at £3 for 250ml of Becks!smiley - yikes)

After You've Gone has no right to exist in this day & age.
I sincerely hope you spent the whole time dirupting the proceedings with loud outbursts of the "This isn't very good!" variety.

A Radio Times reviewer pointed out that it's pretty much a vehicle for Nicholas Lyndhurst's rabbit-in-the-headlights look.

Unfortunately I wasn't drunk enough to do the right thing. It didn't half feel like the 1970s in there!

Erm...

Just a question...

There is a bloke I know...

A colleague...

He's wondering...

How much credibility would he lose if he admitted that he watches this programme with his wife?

Not that *I* watch it, of course...

He wouldn't lose any credibility at all, as he wouldn't have had any to start with! smiley - laugh

Wish I knew what the program is though...

Guess I'm going to have to watch an episode just to see what it's all about... smiley - huh
