I'm running Navigator 6 and I'm definately disapointed. Netscapes flagship browser, the Internet explorer 5.5 beater....... STOP Try again.
I've never used a browser that's so memory intensive, slow and that doesn't support half of the current web standards (new and old). I mean they can't even get java support right. As a web designer i think it's just a bit off to expect everybody to conform to netscapes way of thinking just to get their pages to display properly. This is reminiscent of (dare i say) Microsoft tactics.
Well sorry netscape it's back to IE5.5 for me. Hope you do better with 7
Let me know what your thoughts,

It's just a beta with the "beta" taken off the name. Bad move.
I don't think it's non-standard - just buggy. I'm going to give it 6 months and take a look again, unless someone develops a "Classic Goo" skin...
Have you tried Mozilla? It's been a while since I looked, but I hear they worked out many of the bugs that are still in Netscape 6.

I downloaded Netscape 6 from net and found that all of my families profiles had dissapeared. Thankfully all my bookmarks were safe.
I hate it, back to Netscape 4.7214523181 for me I am afraid.
BTW I e-mailed Netscape with this complaint but the did not respond.

Personally, I think Netscape only released the software on a prayer, hoping they'd have a chance of beating Microsoft.
They didn't.
Their download/installation system was fine, but I could see where it would comfuse a computer newbie. Then, you have to download so many extras just to be able to see Java, Flash, etc., that it takes up way too much space.
The skins they have right now all basically are awful. There's one worthwile one, but if those were the best, I'd hate to see the rest of the user-made ones that they're going to put into their "theme-park."
Every time I open the thing, it brings up a black window marked "Activation." I have yet to find a use for it, except to get in my way, slow Netscape loading, and crash my PC. Lovely.
The AOL Instant Messenger software included is totally buggy. Just like Mr. Pink, I got no reply after I e-mailed them about it.
The sidebars serve no function except to appeal to new users who can't find the things for themself on the Net. I know they can be turned off, but it bothers me that they're taking up space on my computer.
I would recommend IE 5.5 to everyone. Although I'm positive Microsoft haters will sacrifice higher-quality software with better DHTML support for their little self-serving quest not to give more money to Bill Gates (hint: downloading IE _costs_ them money, it doesn't give them any), Netscape 6 really is of no use to anyone. As a matter of fact, it wouldn't even uninstall correctly.
I could go on all day about how much I hate Netscape 6, but I think I'll save h2g2 the server space .

You might have a job! I don't know if it's specific to me but i don't appear to have any uninstall options for this thing either. Cheers Netscape!

Even AOL is smart enough not to use Netscape in their software, even though they signed a big deal with them.

Actually, AOL bought Netscape...
Mozilla is faster and smaller than Netscape 6, but at the moment the feature set is about the same, although the nightly builds are better most of the time than Netscape 6. It's nowhere near finished - how Netscape could dare release a so-called complete browser based on Mozilla, which is declared to be totally unfinished, I do not know, but I do know that they're stupid and it's lost them the war of the v 6.0 browsers - before IE6 is even out.

Being a Macintosh user...I guess I was stuck using the Java version...what a joke that was...the download kept breaking off and then the installer did absolutely nothing...got lackluster reviews anyway...don't know why I bothered...

I think Mozilla for the Macintosh is pretty good. As far as I know anyway. Get Mozilla 0.7 and see what that's like.

Yes, I'm using Mozilla 0.7 for Mac right now. I haven't been using it long but I am already find it to be a great improvement over Netscape 6, even with all of the debugging features still in it.

That would be because it is...
I can't wait for Mozilla 1.0! But that's a ways off yet. 0.8 and 0.9 have to come out first.

It's sooner than you think. If you look at their planned release schedule, they are planning to release a "beta" of version 1 within the next 3 months.

I was always a fan of Netscape up to 4.7, so quite looked forward to 6 but now I've got it it's the slowest browser I've ever seen!

Wait!! Wait for Mozilla!
I was aware of the short release schedule for Mozilla 1.0... but it's still too long for impatient me!

To download MSIE6 go to microsoft dot com and /IE (that should fool the moderators) there is a link to download the public preview. For Win2k it was about 9.5mb but it all seems to running great. Some interesting new features but first impression are definately better than Netscape 6.
