h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I just wondered. When you come to Ask, you get a message:

The Feedback page A5734 directs you to the "New Feedback Page" A87706669 which isn't much help either.

So I shall revert to asking the Community in Ask. Those who still use Ripley.

Since the introduction of Pliny, the "Front Page" in Ripley skins was decommissioned and you used to get a message saying "this page is no longer updated, the New Front Page is here" - with a link to the Pliny front page.

The last few days, on clicking on the logo in the top left hand corner, I have found myself on a historical Front Page from 2011 or so.

If nothing is being done in the background, on the site, how could this change? (I don't think it's retrieving this page from my cache, as I've had three new laptops since 2011!)

Unfortunately, I haven't got a screenshot of what it used to look like with the message about " Go to h2g2.com "

Oh, this is all most definitely in goo. It's not really a problem as such. I'm just wondering how something can change like that if no one is doing anything.

I got sent to that page as well in brunel.

Well as I have mentioned on another thread, something changed for me a couple of weeks back (suddenly unable to log in out of the blue) so I suspect someone *has* fiddled with something in the backrooms somewhere. Subtle effects in different places....

I just clicked on my own link above. I forgot about how Ripley links now add an extra "/dna/h2g2" into the URL creating an invalid link sending you to the good old 404 page.


Anyhoo... I can't wait to read the "IMPORTANT NEWS about the successful bid for H2G2 and a message from Robbie Stamp!"

THAT link took me instead to a Brunel page for an Old Announcements page dating back to September 2011.

I continue to use Brunel. Whether I click the logo or the Front Page link, I go to the Pliny front page. No oops'es at all.

I don't see any references to park City Illinois.

I heard rumours that Pliny had crashed, so I mosied over to have a look, via the Ripley "front page".

WTF??? I stopped at the "front page": Now it is advertising an entry on Brian Blessed - here is a quote:

Is Alabaster part of Ripley, or part of Pliny? I sometimes get a bit, you know, confuzzled.

Ripley (as in RIP).


Pliny is only the post BBC color scheme with the dolphins.

Alabaster, the one true skin, is a Ripley skin (as are Classic Goo and Brunel).

PLAIN is gone innit?
