David Cameron - called referendum. Got it wrong.
Theresa May - called General Election. Got it wrong.
Is there anybody in the Tory Party who is in touch?

Well, they say Blair wants to come back into politics. I think now there's a party he can lead.

Remind me what was the point of this entirely pointless exercise? Because I don't think this is what we want less than 2 weeks before we start divorce proceedings against the EU.

Tories wanted to capitalise on the demise of UKIP, and predicted a 100-seat majority.

Yup, the point was to prove that they had the support of the people to push through a hard exit from the EU.
Did not go the way they expected.
And YES have you seen the turnout for the 18-25 age bracket? Younger people are starting to engage, understand that their vote does matter and it makes a difference. Hopefully this will continue.

Alas, the Tories won the Isle of Wight, and the Greens came third after Labour.
Still, a decade ago the Green's had 900 votes and now they had a record 12,900, so they've done remarkably well, behind Labour with 17,000.
Bob Seely is now the Island's MP. A Century ago his great-great uncle 'Galloper Jack' Seely was the Island's MP (swinging Tory 1900-1904, Liberal 1904-1906, 1923-1924). Two Centuries ago the Island's MPs were Sir Arthur Wellesley the Duke of Wellington and Viscount Palmerston.

Similar story in SW Surrey - the NHA party came second with 12,093 votes. A +11.5% swing, but not enough to unseat Jeremy Hunt, who still has a huge majority.
I think it might need the resurgence of the Liberal party to unseat him eventually.

Pink Paisley, your position sounds just like my constituency. LibDems used to come goos second, but this time it was Labour. Neither close to unseating our Tory MP who has gained from UKIP & green.

Oh the irony of calling a pointless election, getting a very reduced majority and then having to rely on a group heavily affiliated with NI terrorists after having lambasted your major opponent as a terrorist sympathiser and having claimed enough is enough in regards to terrorism.
Hell knows where we are off to now..

There must be a lot of Conservative MPs who quite fancy having jobs come the next election. They will surely come to their senses that blindly ploughing on towards a hard Brexit is completely the wrong thing to do.
1. Did people vote in 2016 for a hard Brexit? No - the balance of opinion was over controlling migration.
2. Did May go to the polls in 2017 asking people to back her plans for a hard Brexit? - Definitely
3. Did she get that mandate? - Certainly not - She lost her party's parliamentary majority.
Where in any of this does the Conservative party get the idea that they have a mandate as a minority government to negotiate a hard Brexit?
