I'm sure my friends did not encounter such a confounding contraption. They only visited England and France, London and Paris mainly.

Okay, maybe next time
I grew up with these contraptions and never gave them a thought till I noticed the difference between them and what I found in other countries. I prefer the German ones to what I found in Southern Europe although I guess one could get used to those as well.
Not so sure about the three shells, though
