What Smilies Do You Use Most?
Pastey Started conversation Apr 1, 2013
As you're all no doubt aware, I'm currently rebuilding the system (again) and we have the opportunity now to change the order of the smilies that you can click on when posting in threads. I can even change them, add more, etc, etc.
So, what smilies do you all use most, or would like to see as clickable ones?

Can you not do stats on that?
Actually, I suspect having say, the bottom row, be random might help to remind us of some of our many many wonderful but underused smilies.

Clickable smilies? These kids don't know they're born today.

Exactly its both quicker, I think and quite often, funnier to just type them by hand... who knows what radical new smileys can be invented by the wanton wondering ways of a wayward finger on its way to waverily and whimsically write a smiley

As I understand it the clickable smileys are available
only on the Pliny platform and in limited numbers. So,
this question applies only to those who use Pliny, right?
I ask because I fear there may be a cascading error like
a tumbling house of cards if any attempt is made to add
this 'convenience' to the old skins.
We who use the old skins are quite content to type our
smilies thank you all the same. Classic case of "if it aint
broke dont fux it".
That said, we would always welcome new smilies.
The last batch was a year ago before Xmas.
BTW
The hero smiley needs to be rotated 90 degrees
so its horizontal and flying.

Those of us using the One True Skin (Brunel) have no less than 24 clickable smilies.
Of those I think there are near duplicates that could be culled like and , and , and
I don't think I've ever used or

Those of us using the original and best skin are happy to have less than 24 clickable smilies. They would only destroy its beautiful minimalism, and anyway they'd clash with the bicycling fish.

I think the clickable list on Pliny and Brunel is fine, although I hardly ever need the , , and .
I'd rather like to have , , and instead.
We should keep and because it's never wrong to have some cake and tea I think.

I always sign off with , but my fingers type that without me looking (or thinking even, I've done it in business emails. But so far I've caught it each time)
is another favourite, as is the old and also

There's clickable smilies in Brunel and Pliny.
I *could* look at the stats for the usage of the smilies, but for various reasons they wouldn't be very helpful at the moment.
We have 247 smilies at the moment, some are rarely used, some used a lot.
I've played around a bit with the layout in the new Pliny and we can get more than 24 in as clickable ones, but we still need to decide on an order for them

Er, if you *have* stats on usage, I can't think of a single good reason why you wouldn't find this helpful, let alone various ones.

I used to use smileys a lot more than I have done recently. Like 2legs I usually type them, probably cos I used to use Alabaster. Now, I prefer Pliny, being as it is easier to read, I still hardly ever use the clickable ones.
This may be a subject everyone has vehement views on, but it's my opinion that the use of some of the rarer smileys shows a bit of individuality.
And who knew that the music note can be typed with just an o / and ~ that's helpful! It turns out that lots of others fall into this category too.

With more and more people using tablets, clickable smileys become important. For me to type <> I've got to go to a third alternate keyboard on the iPad.
