Marshall, as always, was constantly thinking and improving
his choice of language and shocked Woody when he didn't
go with the scripted line and adlibbed his own version.
He got a good laugh out of the crowd and crew.
But Woody, who considers himself the last word in adlib acting
was jealous and began second guessing his own idea of including
MM in the film at all. And he made him redo the scene with at
least 17 takes. Maybe it was 70...
MM was already very ill so however many it was a lot, and just
a typical director's hissy-fit to punish a performer for upstaging
him.
This is the kind of insight available only in the official authorised
biography by W. Terrence Gordon or perhaps just from friends
of Terry Gordon.

Does anyone know how the Turner Prize judges are chosen? Are they elected in some manner?
Also, how do those artists get into the competition? Who nominates them?

Don't worry...I'm by no means back...too busy fighting The Revolution an' a' tha'.

But I just wanted to drop in and say...

I mean...basically cities are Jazz rendered in concrete, stone and human flesh, aren't they? Sure, they have a Classical framework - boulevards, ring roads and the like - but then as Thelonious Monk put it, 'First rule of Jazz: always hum the tune inside your head.' Piet Mondriaan understood this perfectly. I'll not insult you by reminding you of the title of this:

I think the Dwarf city of Khazad-dûm was definitely rock.

Possibly. But as Declan Patrick Aloysius McManus once put it:

'That's where too many bands go wrong. It's Rock *and* Roll.'

It seems to me that it's never entirely Carla Bley Free Jazz, though. Even the most higgledy-piggledy favelas manage to self-organise some quite sophisticated physical and socio-economic structures. Think of them as being akin to the Sun Ra Arkestra from whom amongst all the cacophony something approaching a tune frequently coalesces. You wouldnae want to try to hum it, but.

Look - does anyone have the slightest clue what I'm on about here? 'Cause I sure as don't.

Sigh. One liner spoilt by (whatever hootoo markup language is called. I cannae mind.)

It was meant to be:

'Cause I sure as (whatever sweary word gets past the hootoo filthers nowadays) don't.'

More eloquent than smiley - bleep, I figured.

Did we work out of Venus is art yet?

Mars is braw in crammasy,
Venus in a green silk goun,
The auld mune shak's her gowden feathers,
Their starry talk's a wheen o' blethers,
Nane for thee a thochtie sparin'
Earth, thou bonnie broukit bairn!
- But greet, an' in your tears ye'll drown
The haill clanjamfrie!

- Hugh McDiarmid.

And all that from memory! I surpass myself. smiley - smiley
