"Some folks seeing the same (un-liked) person in two consecutive threads will feel 'haunted and stalked'. The actual mathematics really don't count at that point, it is the emotional response more so than any real or practical one"
So what you're saying is, if person B sufficiently paranoid/narcissistic/"sensitive", it doesn't matter whether person A is even aware of their existence?
Bear in mind that by definition, if A truly posts in 95% of active threads, B and EVERY OTHER USER ON THE SITE should expect to see them in 19 out of every 20 threads. If B's sufficiently up themselves, you're right, this observation will be irrelevant, as with people like that everything is about them, even when it's provably not. Appropriate action? Instruct B to grow a pair?

Posting directly behind 'A' with a prod, poke or jibe doesn't help anyone's mind-set.
Hit & Runs in accounts, journals and 'A's' Ask threads and then unsubbing only hides the evidence from the 'B', not the receiver.
Shouting 'victim' doesn't work when all that evidence is there to be seen.
That's just my

I am unsubbing from this thread because I predict it will turn into snide little jibes and coded references.
For Person A read ....
For Person B read ....
If someone does this ....
When someone does that ....
People who are friends with those who....
People who are in positions to .....
I would call bullshit on this, but it's about people snidely and slyly hinting about super-secret elephants in the room, so I am calling elephant-poo instead. A Blue Peter moment...

Sheesh, walk away from a thread for a little time and it turns into a fish-recipe war, Master B becoming all offended, and offers of mathematical harms from a Happy one ...
Ya just gotta love this site.

I also can't follow what is being implied here and so will echo Tiggy's post but in a different direction: grow a pair and either put up or shut up.
There's been alot of implied comment about various people in recent months. Some of it I can understand, where people feel that speaking directly will cause problems, but this thread looks like an out and out stir. It's anti-social and bad for the site, especially given that we're moving within a week
It's also concerning that mr gideon, who started the thread, has the hallmarks of a sock puppet.

When I posted the words in a journal, a bit over two weeks ago, there was a fair bit of 'slurring' going on. It was in poor judgement, was stricken twice and returned both times without any effort on my part. As to Mr Gideon, who? Or why quoting it now, I can't even try to guess.

Surely the mark of a stalker is in whether they turn up where you wouldn't expect them to be. B frequently posting after A in an area like Ask wouldn't mean much because it's such a public area, but if they started showing up in journals and private convos it'd be a more suspect.
That said, given the nature of this place and how public it is, even that isn't conclusive. There are ways of hiding convos pretty well here and if someone showed up in one of those they're more likely a stalker than not.

If someone feels they are being stalked, then the thing to do is contact the H2g2 Editors, or after we move, the Community Editors.

Hmm.
I know of one example of a person having recently been told that he pursued someone between threads and harassed him on the site for a period.
What *might* have happened was that person A would often disagree with person B's opinions. They would inevitably encounter each other in various threads. Is A not to disagree with B in multiple places in case he is accused of harassment?
And anyway - surely we've all been so jaded by the eejits on the site as to take the occasional break?

I don't understand this cyberstalking thing. There are some people you like and have some similar interests to or respect in some way. You will see where they are posting and think, 'oh that's likely to be interesting then'..and often or not you'll post there..and that's like in real life.
If I get to know where people I like and respect go..I'll go there as well.
But for me the real cyber stalking is to do with vague things like..you'll be in a thread..there'll be a bit of a kerfuffle..and suddenly out of nowhere this person will turn up and cause more problems for you...or suuden inexplicable yikesing occur in your journal when no-one has ever replied there.
This pattern will continue. That's real cyberstalking to me.
You can't prove it but you see the pattern
