Who was your ACE?
broelan Started conversation Jun 23, 2011
Kind of along the same line as "What was your first post?" - or inspired by it anyway - do you remember who your ACE was? That person who made the site 'sticky', who perhaps encouraged you to stick around and get involved?
The first time I registered there was no such thing as an ACE.
But when I re-registered I was greeted by Ormondroyd and, more than a decade on, I'm still here

My daughter Vicki Virago ACE'd me. A year later I ACE'd my other daughter Virtuouschuffed.

Serephina was my AC in 2004.
She left before BBCiD and had to re-register earlier this year, I very nearly ACE'd her back

Feisor - I was impressed by the whole concept of a real person appearing on my doorstep. A definite sticky.

You know what? I've just checked back and I can't see that I ever had one. Perhaps I unsubscribed accidentally.
However, I've had a few hands of friendship extended over the years, which is nice.

Bel was also very kind and "rescued" me several times from some situations.
Ed the Bonobo,(Not the Monkey) Gifford and others made the place 'sticky' for me too. I mean I found very intelligent people with sense of humour.

Bistroist - we didn't have that much contact but he was lovely and friendly.
(i think it's the thread that keeps me here mostly...)

Among those people who made the place sticky is Azahar. She was very friendly and kind with me. Then came Rich,(Skankyrich)with whom I started a good relationship here because of his Entries about Granada and La Alhambra.

Mine was Clive The Flying Ostrich (I think that was in my first incarnation on hootoo, not as Elentari).
I remember making some not terribly polite comment about his name being odd, back before I realised what hootooers are like.

Mistdancer. Sadly, I just checked their PS, and they show no evidence of activity since 2003.

Captain Kebab. He disappeared later but has turned up a couple of time in the last year or so. The second post on my Aceing thread was from pheloxi, the sweetie , with a Christmas card (I registered on Christmas day).
Then I met Mr Manda and I think Loup D'Argent and suddenly found myself staying up all night online I also met Terri (the zen devil
) and Abbi in those first few days, there was no turning back after that

I wasn't Aced when I joined in 2003 (but someone did do it after I mentioned it a few years later!)
The reason may have been that I'd arrived from the BBC messageboards and immediately set about making a bit of a nuisance of myself. The community there had been shot to pieces after a series of technical problems led to the site being unusable for the whole summer. Most members left and never returned, so I was a bit sore about it all, especially when I saw the signs of similar technical problems happening on DNA.
I know now that the community here is far stronger and better equipped to survive those sort of outages. In short, I learned not to panic.

Interestman-
Bel, who gave me some valuable info as he picked me out of the mass. I'm still grateful to him for that.

We had a bit of a problem in that people who have anything already posted to their Spaces don't show up on the list and therefore don't get ACEd.
Something else I'm looking forward to fixing after the move. *rubs hands together in glee*

I hope we can get a change log on the Front Page showing at least a brief description of all the alterations and bug fixes for the under bonnet stuff. The Beeb were always a bit secretive about what they were up to. It's a useful historical record of how the site develops.
Oh, and my Ace btw was Paper Lady (Amy P), queen of the mufflewhumps.
