I have reached 40 and have decided I am bored with the old me and I would like to re-invent myself. Any ideas on how to do this?

How do you want to reinvent yourself?
Looks, clothes, out-look on life, personality, hobbies, on-line forum usage?
Is it something these 'life-coaches' would help you with?

Yes, life coaches are the obvious choice, although I'm aware there's prejudice against them. Since there's no indication in the OP as to what the poster wants, it seemsUu likely that what's needed is to get some inspiration fir
st. Traditional ways too pursue inspiration include travelling, volunteering, following shamanic paths and taking drugs, although the last method has problems, of course.

Personally I think life coaches are a waste of time. Having found out someone I knew is now one I would never have thought of them as being one.
Presumably, once you;ve been on the training courses anyone could be one.

Transvestitism.... Its the obvious course of action... And, has the added advantage in most cases that it tends to shock everyone you knew before

Tinkertoy, Meccano, model-railroading, whittling...
You get the idea, immerse yourself in some sort of
detailed hands-on activity. It is important at mid-
life to re-establish one's hand-eye relationships
if for no better reason than to be aware that one's
hands are no longer soft and unwrinkled. It also
allows one to indulge in self-awareness without the
guilt usually assorted with avoiding eye contact or
ignoring the whirled around you.

Are we talking something superficial, or is it your personality you want to try and change?

>> Take up pipe smoking...<<
Yes, another excellent example of precision manual
activity - building a little fire in a tiny wooden
bowl with a bit of oral satisfaction thrown in.

Yes it's difficult when you confront, 'live fast, die young and have a beautiful corpse' is no longer an option.
Have you thought of gardening? Works for me.

Pipe - or cigarette - smoking helps with relaxing, with concentration ...
However, 40 is a bit young to take it up.
On retirement would be better - it seems that emphysema takes about 20 years to get hold...

You could do that 'Insanity' workout they've been advertising on telly and reinvent yourself as a heart attack victim.
