So does it comprise people who are actually signed in, an inactive accounts? In other words, are there any active accounts on the list that are not in fact researchers logged in and hooting?

GT, are you sure you're not clicking the by name or ID button after you load that link?

DNA's is on the list, and I'm fairly sure he's not active. Maybe the Eds updated him after the upgrade and have him logged in?

Christ on a cross, what does that mean? When I load the link you gave, the page is not selected by either name or ID, so for you to get by name or ID you will have to be doing something else.
If you select by name or by ID AFTER you have loaded by site, the page refreshes to name or ID but NOT by site (as I explained earlier).

Does someone want to open this link and see what it looks like?

More weirdness
When looking at my PS when not signed in, is says I've never posted to the Chief thread, but after I sign in it accurately says I posted last week...

That link works fine kea. Switching the top-line 'Order By' between ID and Name
changes the number online with every switch; almost anywhere
between 2380 and 3945, never the same twice, clicking between
as fast as I can.
I suspect someone is hacking the site and downloading all files,
A-pages, U-pages and conversations in the chronological order they
were created. The cyber-bot is logging on and off as necessary to
access Journals, Entries, etc.
It's happening very fast and will likely not last for much longer
than dawn.
Their plan of course is simply steal all the files rather than buy them
and later when the Beeb tosses us out with the baby's bathwater
they'll send out emails to all of us (including Two Bit and
John the Gardener ) and offer us memberships in a noohootoo
site that includes all the simple things we've always wanted.
Like a black-hearted Robin Hood.

oooo! we're being asymulated.... our conversation threads, our journals, our entrys, our personal spaces, every aspect of each of us is slowely being extracted, sucked up, hoovered up, as we become one and are asymulated into.... \who knows what

Ok, one more time.
If you switch between 'by ID' and 'by name' you are not longer looking at the h2g2 list, you are looking at the list for the whole of the bbc. That's what we mean when we say it is no longer by site.
The bbc list will always be larger than the h2 one. To view the h2 one, you have to have 'by site'. Look at the URL and you will see this change.
To look at the h2 list go to:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/Online?orderby=id&thissite=1
0r
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/Online?orderby=name&thissite=1
Once there, if you use the name or ID buttons you will revert to the bbc list, not the h2 list.

Ok, gotcha!
You're right it does default to a full Beeb roster!
So I've re-opened both links again.
And the numbers are only around 300 on both.
And with both windows open, clicking between them
changes the numbers by a few dozen or so.
