Forgive my colonial ignorance, but this 'Daily Mail' . . . it's a respected publication, right, on a par with 'Nature' and 'Science'?

Gotta love the opening sentence of that thing..
'You may already know this, but psychic powers might really exist.'
Yes the rag always carefully cover their filthy ar*es with meaningless sentences like that, that to pull in the gullible and stupid. And of course the headline says, 'prove' in inverted commas. That whole article is the usual smoke and mirrors nonsense. Right up kuchisidy's street.
Bet James Randi is ****ing himself..

What a load of guff. Religion is based on handed down stories and ancient texts. Just like the 'predictions' of Nostrodamus you can read into these things what the hell you like. It's just a huge game of Chinese Whispers. Religion in the hands of zealots is dangerous.
Whatever religion you follow, just try and be nicer to other people, whatever their belief, creed, race or colour. You never know, the world might start to look a brighter place.

Do you ever see footage of football hooligans fighting? A bunch of thugs in red shirts fighting and scrapping with a bunch of thugs in blue shirts?
Do you ever think to yourself, "What a bunch of idiots, fighting because they support a different team. They all follow the same game, don't they?"
Christians, Muslims, Sikhs, whatever your chosen religion, you all follow the same game, it is just your 'shirt' that's different. And there is little difference between you and those idiots who fight at football matches.

I think it's altogether different.
From my understanding, football hooliganism such as it is these days..in terms of clubs..is about one lot of thuggy types arranging barnies in quite a civilised way really, ie the arranging, via mobiles, to meet up with another lot of thuggy types..ie people who enjoy a bit of direct physical violence, at some place well away from any football ground, which will be full of police, often wearing similar smart casual brands such as, Ralph Lauren, or Aquascutum.
Where as religious violence is nearly always founded upon deep ideological difference amongst the people in power..that one could call 'political' really ie power struggles at the highest level. The street fighters are merely pawns in that game.
A totally different game from gang based football violence.

Swap the mobile phone for someone preaching from a pulpit.
Religious intolerance seems to be based on one side saying to the other side "my god's better than your god". That's not so far removed from hooliganism in its basest form.
If you drill religion down into two components - love and tolerance of your fellow man, and love for your god- then do away with the god element- wouldn't that more or less solve the problem?

> love and tolerance of your fellow man, and love for your god- then do away with the god element- wouldn't that more or less solve the problem?<
I don't think 'god' has much to do with it. I think it's power politics and for whatever reason there are ideological differences at the highest level. Competition over land and resourses is a common one.
God difference is often a convenient badge to attach..and often backed up by bits in the holy texts..but I think that is secondary. It's competiton and power struggles that matter. However the masses are manipulated, is merely convenience and pragmatic.
I think people of different religions can get on perfectly well if the politics allow it..history and geography shows this is so.
No, god is really only a bit part player.

There's one crucial and MASSIVE difference, that makes me have more respect for the football hooligans.
Millwall FC does at least, provably, EXIST.
