So Venables was in court today and a few more details came out.
Am I just hopelessly, irredeemably liberal or do other people find this whole situation terribly tragic and find themselves with the tiniest amount of sympathy for Venables?
Slightly 
but I always hate when voxpops are taken outside Bootle Strand when this story comes up. The level of hatred people in my home town still hold depresses me.

The thing that struck me most was that Venables isn't the sharpest dart in the board, is he?
He calls the police round to his house, and they find him trying to 'reformat' his hard drive with a knife and a spanner...

I also find it tragic so you're not alone in that, although I suspect we're very much in the minority. My husband is certainly in the 'string 'em up' camp so it's not something we discuss here at Chateau Mol.
