AB:
>>The logical conclusion from my post should be if man has established that culling is advantageous to specific animal species could culling of humans be of advantage to the human race.
Ah understood. But you have to admit...you weren't awfully clear.
Well - obviously the only answer to your speculation is 'No - it would be morally unacceptable. The question doesn't even need to be asked.'
(and I'd hoped my reductio ad absurdem examples had showed that)

Post 214 - Maria del Mar
What on earth put you off on the cause you have chosen to label me with.
You have obviously been misled by people posting their opinions and siting me as the perpetrator. Having been so misled you just seized the opportunity to have your two penny worth.
I could say that having been gang raped I am owed an apology but being the victim I can hardly expect any sympathy in this company who's sole objective seems to be to sympathise with the criminal.

With respect, AB...you confused everyone by your speculation on culling. I don't know why you thought the speculation might be useful in a discussion of the Venables case, but you can hardly blame us for assuming you were attempting to make a contribution to the discussion.
You must, I feel, acknowledge some responsibility for any confusion you caused.
Alternately - you may be getting off on berating everyone for misunderstanding and victimising you.
I genuinely can't work you out.

<<You have obviously been misled by people posting their opinions and siting me as the perpetrator<<
Could you be clearer? In post 214 I quoted *your words* not the opinion of anyone else. About the label, are you thinking of post 222? Because I could give you *quoting your words* the reasons why I label your words as a fruit of ignorance and lack of sympathy.( which I don´t intend to do it, at least today, but if you are interested you can re-read your posts, starting with that one, at the begining of this thread, where you said something about evil being something genetic)
You trew a stone, and now hide the hand and with the other point at others.
Relax yourself a bit, man.
<<I can hardly expect any sympathy in this company who's sole objective seems to be to sympathise with the criminal.<<
We are talking about rehabilitation of criminals not about forgetting the responsabilities they have.
We are also talking about compassion and understanding when the crime has been committed by a child and act accordingly to that.
And about taking into account the background of criminals to understand and deal better with the problem of criminality. etc.
Incidentally, I´ve listened in the radio this afternoon an interview about a man who has written a book on crimes along the history.
At one point he has said that concerning child criminality, all those children had something in common: a terrible childhood.

I can see now why you keep jumping to the wring conclusions.
Can I suggest you may perform better if you do one thing at a time.
That's called - Sound advice

Post 218 Friends call him Ed
I too have had ups and downs in my life.
Some of them self imposed.
Have a laugh- A prison imposed a no smoking ban and a reduction in crime was noted. This is a story going round one of the care homes.

Post 220 - Can I call you ED
You are now putting words in the mouth of the honest one.
He has plenty to say for himself.
I've dealt with culling.

Well Edward the Bonobo is the name I'd prefer to go by.
But what I'd really, really like is if when you feel yo've been misunderstood, you might consider whether you've been clear and if not - try to clarify what you meant.
Sincerely - some of your postings are quite obtuse. Please try to order your thoughts and express them one at a time. That way we'd...er...waste less time. (Hmm. Or do I mean waste time in a more productive way? We're only here to waste time, right? )
Oh...and insults are simply impolite.

I came to h2g2 July 2002.
Like in most things I have seen a fall in standards.

OK I'm bored - Talk among yourselves.
My point has always been that the punishment should fit the crime.
If in the end it means putting, merciless killers down then I for one would raise no objection. The method of putting them down could be discussed. In my view there are cases where hanging them would be too lenient. In the end society will get the environment that it deserves.
Let me repeat. It is the future of my grandkids that concerns me and knowing intelligent people can be so complacent about the world they live in does nothing to help.
Good night.

GlitterPixie Posted Mar 25, 2010
Ancient Brit i agree!!
The punishment should fit the crime and the fact they have more rights than the victim makes you question what exactly is going on in the society we live in!!

>>Let me repeat. It is the future of my grandkids that concerns me and knowing intelligent people can be so complacent about the world they live in does nothing to help.<<
This is what is doing my head in - the accusation that we're complacent.
I'm doing a in hard job for very little money or praise. With my hands, my heart and my wits I'm trying to make the world a better place. I'm probably fighting a losing battle, but at least I'm fighting.
You're not, you're just whinging and insulting the people who are doing something. You want a better world? Get off your arse and make one.
Ed works on Children's Panels, Mar's a teacher. Gif (I hope he won't mind me saying) became a father within the last year. The last thing any of us are is complacent.
Oh, and I'd think someone who doesn't know how to use paragraphs or punctuation should be a lot more circumspect about jumping on another person for making a typo.

Yup. What'll probably work best for me is if we put each other on our Ignore lists. You can go play games with someone else.

I apologise for having an opinion!! I saw what Ancient Brit wrote about the punishment fitting the crime and I agreed! Once again though my sincere apologies!

Following on from Honest T:
And what *really* get my goat is when people express outrage after the fact without actually getting off their arses to *prevent* the social malaises that result in crime. Stable doors. Horses. Bolted.
'Hang them!' 'Bang 'em up for life'. *Too Late!!!!*
