Who has a supernatural story or issue?
Eveneye--Eegogee--Julzes Started conversation Sep 13, 2009
I have related my claim that I had a highly specific precognitive dream (guessing 'Neil Diamond' on America's "Wheel of Fortune" game show back in the mid-1970s, based upon the dream with no letters showing). This is a place to discuss something like this in your own lives or to discuss claims and counter-claims on anything seemingly supernatural. Discuss the frauds and the possible truths. Discuss the meaning of the word 'supernatural' itself and whether there is a better substitute for what is meant by it. Whatever!

Something that seems to violate what is to be expected from nature without the involvement of some higher intelligence. Do you want me to quote the dictionary for the sake of precision, or will the prior sentence do?

One could put everything under Nature and call 'supernatural' a meaningless word if you don't qualify it the way I did. The dictionary is going to do something similar.

On second thought, my sentence will work the way suggest. If it seems to violate what one would expect from nature for most people, the respondent is going to have to treat it as supernatural for most people even if it seems natural to him or her.

I see your point. Let's say it can only be explained through the use of either a higher intelligence or a violation of what is currently believed of physical law. Drop the 'most people' thing.

but supernatural is, outside nature, so is outside of the universe, so any supernaural events that are witnessed have happened inside the universe so must have an explination, and once explained stop being supernatural??????

No, not according to the dictionary or me. Its a point I have made. We need a better word.

Oh, once explained the supernatural ceases to be supernatural. Yes! I have said that in the other thread. We're working with the present and what is known and experienced by people in the context of present knowledge about nature.

so to explain the supernatural we need to test it
and the only way to properly test anything is with the scientific method

Are you falling asleep? Because I don't have to chat with you if you are going to post things that don't make sense.

Oh, you don't test everything in science, precisely speaking, by an experiment. The point of this thread is multi-fold, so the way you come in is fine, but have you any experiences to share that made you wonder that you resolved in one way or the other?

Things are also explained using pure reason from time to time. I prefer science and the scientific method, but mathematicians aren't using it most of the time in proving their results. Mathematics is the Queen of the Sciences, it is said.

to devise a test or experiment you must have some sort of hypothesis based on other theories and or evidence, which are testable.
experiences are subjective, and anecdotal evidence changes from person to person,
once you have good evidence of a supernatural event it stops being supernatural
and you cant test a negative
so if i say that ghosts dont exist, thats about it for ghosts
