For the HP7 Spoiler thread!

smiley - bleep me... When HP7 comes out, THEN we can have another spoiler thread. This thread started directly after the release of 6 and is mostly concerned with supposition and speculation as to what will happen in 7.

So, return to this thread folks and we'll return to that new one when the final book is out and can be properly spoilt!

Emee, out from under the rock

In that case... I read that JK doesn't want to divulge Harry's fate because she doesn't want to get hate mail... smiley - bigeyes

Now, as we are getting all revved up to face the excitement of awaiting the last book (hey, it can only be another five eternities or so), I was thinking about the alleged last word of that book. Apparently it will be "scar" (though this may be revised by JKR). People have been thinking about possible sentences to fit that last word, and so have I. Here it is - it was all just a spelling mistake.

"They spent the rest of the night making out and experimenting on levitation charms; some hours after midnight, Tom took Ginny by the arm and led her to hi scar."

Please could you use a different thread for HP7 spoilers? I know it's early days, but some of us would prefer not even to be spoiled by accident.

Sure thing. Consider it done. smiley - ok And sorry, I did not mean to spoil anything. If you skipped reading the conent of the post above for fear of being spoiled - you may safely read it, as it was a joke, rather.

I still think that until HP7 is actually released and *can* be spoiled, this IS the place for conjecture, rumour and whatnot.

But apparently some would prefer let this thread die prematurely.

Oh, well.

Presumably the worry is that when the "Red-Tops" start spilling the beans as they have done for the last couple of HP books someone might post a "dumbledore dies" type revalation that someone might be annoyede to read in error.

I'm not sure what a "red top" is but that's still my point. Until then a HP7 spoiler thread seems premature.

But since I'm the only one that thinks so, it doesn't really matter.

A "Red-Top" is a tabloid/gutter press paper, at least in Britain.

They have a habit of releasing spoilers on just about everything and it is quite feaqsable that a major plot related device might be released very early.

They first releaed the Dumbledore to dies story months before HP6 came out.

Maybe we could make a place where we can do speculations / conjectures / whatnot without disturbing people who don't want to know? smiley - erm

Here is what I think JKR should do to avoid that red tops spoiler scenario. She should -- plant those rumors, herself. Not overtly, for sure. But she and Bloomsbury should use some "informants" who either "let something slip accidentally" or who pretend to work at the printing company and have seen the last page, etc. Or who would pull off a version of the Dumbledore stunt before book six (a person who could be associated somehow with the production of the book places a bet that something particular might happen at some bookie - who would in turn inform the tabloids).

The important thing here is this: a number of such "informants" has to be deployed at the same time, but all of them corroborating *different* stories. Imagine if The Sun had a story predicting that Harry will marry some merry Mary, while News of teh World had a story that Voldemort is definitely going to kill Neville Longbottom, while the Daily Mirror had a story that the last word of the book will not be "scar" after all, but "dung bombs"... all on the same day, all thinking that they had an exclusive coup in their hands.

The important thing is that one of the hawked stories has to be close to the right version. This is important so that the real version cannot be deduced by the principle of "whatever theory has not been reported on has to be the truth."

Imagine the confusion. Imagine the fun of JKR responding cryptically to interviewers asking her whether one the stories had got it right.

The practical upshot of this scheme is that it would actively forestall any attempts by would-be snitches. It is vital, however, that this scheme is implemented *before* any printing shop worker or lector or house cleaner who found a copy of the script decides to become rich and famous by selling their news to the news.

So, if any of you happens to be JKR, or know or work with her, feel free to use that idea smiley - smiley

Oh, yea... about 6 months at least before Half Blood Prince was released there was a bad Engrish knockoff released from China I believe... what was it called... Harry Potter and the Dragon's something or another I think... They claimed it was a pirated version but it was just some weird fan-fic with a bad translation.
