Driver's Licences - Retesting?

Post 1

Can anyone tell me which places in the world require an individual to periodically be retested to renew their driver's licence? I ask because I recently found out that Illinois (US) has a mandatory driving (and vision) retest for individuals over 75 (every four years) and over 81 (every two years), and am interested in where sensible statutes of this sort exist. I'd be even more interested to find out where it isn't even age-based (as in, a mandatory drivers retest for EVERYONE).

In the UK you have to reapply for your driving license when you reach the age of 70. It is automatically re-issued provided that you have no health problems that would affect your ability to drive (that includes eye-sight). Thereafter you have to re-apply every 3 years (as far as I know).

You also need to re-take your driving test if convicted of an offence that costs you your driving license.

Lost in Scotland

Unfortunately, there's nothing in Sweden that says that you have to re-apply for your driver's licence after you pass a certain age. They started talking about people over 65 would have to re-take the test every couple of years (not sure about the exact time period), but the pensioner's associations of Sweden created a great fuss about discrimination against older people, so they scrapped the idea.
However, if an old person is in a car accident, the authorities can revoke their licence andprevent them from re-applying for a new.
If you have an accident or otherwise get your licence revoked for more than 12 months, you have to take the tests all over again, to get your licence back.
We also have a two year provisional period on our licences (counting from your first licence) that states that if you get caught for any infringement (speeding, running a red light, parking your car in the boot of a police patrol car) your licence gets revoked immediately, and you have to retake the tests again to get it back.
