Is there any way for someone to completely leave H2G2? I mean, remove himself from being a member and deliet his homepage.

If you really really wanted to, you could delete all your article pages and then ask those that work for h2g2 to remove any other trace of your presence but why would you want to do that?

another solution could be going back in time to before you decided to become a member of H2G2 and then kill yourself before you had the chance to make the mistake. Of course that course of action not only result in you leaving H2G2 completely but this universe as well, so it may not be an advisable plan. Though if you ask me, if you're not a member of H2G2 you're as good as dead anyways, and that's not just a clever simile, it's a threat. I mean it. I'd seriously think things over before you decided to do anything drastic

Well, you _could_ seriously upset the space-time continuum, I suppose, but we all remember what happened _last_ time.
Instead, I suggest
(a) Changing your name
(b) Simply denying that it was ever you using h2g2, and any evidence anyone has is simply a figment of their own (or a collective) imagination, as you certainly weren't on h2g2, and your car certainly wasn't parked on _that_ kirb. Anything anyone else says is heresay.

Ahhh, but if you travel back intime and kill yourself, you'd be dead, right?
And if you were dead, you wouldn't be able to go back in time to kill yourself. So you wouldn't kill yourself and you'd be alive.
Ad infinitum...
Your solution would leave the poor reader in a state of 'on-off' for eternity. Surely that's to cruel to inflict even on someone who wanted to leave?

Well I have seen many researchers survive quite happily here in Deaded form nad it didn't slow them down. Even now I'm fighting for my own life in a poisoning mystery.

You could post something really outrageously offensive, then The People Who Do That Sort Of Thing might delete your account.

That might work but I don't think I could do that. My problem is that I don't belong here, or anywhere for that matter. I don't think I should be here anymore, because, well, I wan't say at moment.

Well then, what you COULD do is have someone impersonate you and have THEM do something very hideous and not very neighborly while you are safely at the nearest pub, enjoying a drink and chatting with some incredibly nice and attractive person who wants to be nice to you. That way, when the Frogstar's come for you, you have a concrete alibi and therefore, circumvent any legal hassles. Of course, it nmight help to have a plan "B" incase the attractive person you were chatting with happened to ALSO be a fugitive from justice.

Hmm, don't think you should be here anymore ?? Wait a minute !!!!!! They got to you didn't they ?? You were hired away from us by those Bozos at the Encyclopedia Galactica weren't you ?? I hear they were trying to hire all the guide researchers away and try to retake their old title as the "Acceptable wealth of all knowledge in the universe". Buch of bloody hacks. I hope that is NOT what happened here. And to think I may have actually given you one of my best ideas.
Zarqon !!

I believe the officially sanctioned method for ritual suicide is to send an email to [email protected]
No one's ever done it so no one's really sure what happens when you do - though I'd suggest sending it from the email account of the user id that is to disappear.

Surely it's not possible to remove someone totally - what would happen to this conversation, for example? Would the whole thing disappear, or just fdkl45p8-3048's comments?

I believe the forum posts stay behind but with just a researcher number rather than a name.

So in reality, there is still the essence of them being there: they might as well just change their name back to their number, delete all the stuff on their page, and any pages they have created, etc, because it seems that would turn out the same?

I'm not leaving anymore. The problem has been delt with. I'm staying.
I guess you can't really leave. For one thing, everone has a number, if you were taken out competely there'd be a missing number. Also you couldn't get rid of all the things you've posted, that would really screw things up.

I am thinking of leaving as any club that would have me as a member etc etc.

I believe if you want to remove your identity from the h2g2 directories (i.e., e-mail addy, etc.), there is an e-mail address you can send your details to and they'll get rid of you.

Mr Indiferent, you were just looking for sympathy, reassurance, comfort etc...weren't you???
We all look for that from time to time. The good thing about this site is that you find not only ready replies, but also REASONED responses and suggestions to your queries etc.
Just ask, and someone will be there for you.
Try it and you'll see. I aint been on the site for a while but I bet I'll get good replies and advice within a day or so of posting any query. Just you try it...
See ya, Sarah xxx
